?Door speakers?
I've got the "grill(s)" in the doors but no audio from them. (assumed they were only on the highline models) |

This is what is behind the door panel.
This case is attached to the door.
The speaker fits inside the case. What are some options that you guys have done. Everything else has been repalaced. |

I have the door speakers in my '95 E300D. I was under the impression they were for added base. The location of the speakers (blocked by the seats), and also the "enclosure" shown in your pictures would seem to corroborate that impression. I'm trying to find a dedicated woofer that small, since my dash and parcel shelf speakers can handle the mids and highs. A 2- or 3-way speaker down there would just get muddy-sounding. I might just stick with the stock door speakers until I can find a better solution.

I put some 6.5" MB quart in mine.
I had 6.5" infinity in them beofre. I also removed the little boxes that the speaker wire attaches to,t hat cut the high frequencies as I used my own crossovers. Otherwise they will be door subs as originally setup. I plan on sealing my doior pods up with fiberglass most likely one of these days so it is a fully sealed pod, versus venting intot he door itself. Alon

OK... I might take a little heat for this, but how does this sound for the doors?:
PYRAMID WX65X - 6.5" Woofer Hi Power White Injected Polypropylene Cone Specially Treated Black Rubber Edge Suspension Vented Motor Structure High Temperature 1" Kapton Voice Coil Heavy Duty Magnet Structure Bumped Yoke Plate For Extended Excursion Overall Diameter 6.57" 4 Ohms Impedance SPL @ 1W/1M 87.1DB Frequency Response: 65Hz-3.6kHz 40 Oz. Heavy Magnt Structure Mounting Depth 2.76" 100 Watt RMS Power 250 Watt Peak Power I know Pyramid isn't the best out there, but would that give me OK sound? I can get them for under $10 each, which might make it worthwhile just to try. Any thoughts?

Update on door speakers. Put in Diamond Audio M361i
The stock speakers provided bass. I took them out when I upgraded the system. I searched for a non-tweeter speaker= could not find one with the size that I needed or the quality.
Front: Rainbows Rear: Diamond Audio M361i Bass: Infinity Kappa 10" sub in box New Door: Diamond Audio M361i I did a lot of searching for size and quality. So this is what I came up with. I was able to fit the speakers in an almost exact fit. A little grinding and cutting of washers. The speaker will be able to move when the door panel is put back in. I will post in about 1 week when I hook them up to the system. A lot of people have said that they will be muffled. The other option, nothing was a hole in the system. I took a risk. Nick |

Do these "cases" do anything in regards to sound? I seen pictures of the w140 speakers and many of them were in these big cases.

Re: Cases
No I do not think so. The cases have open slots in the back. They are not air tight at all.
I think that they are just a convenient mounting case. I do not know how the bass was able to come out of the doors with such force. |

Yes, you can disconnect the tweeters.
I am going to try them in about 10 days. I need to put everything back together. I am going to try them with and without. What harm will a tweeter do at this location to the system? |

you could seal the boxes up, a little fiberglass resin and some fiberglass cloth will allow it to be sealed. I'll be sealing mine up sooner or later, and doing sealing on the rear deck ones, as well as squeezing a 5.25" in the dash locations, but by going from underneath, and will be making custom tweeter pods for the tweeters on the a pillars.
But they do provide a little bit more resistance those boxes for a little bit improved bass response. Alon
