Constant background hissing from 98 e320 with a sony cdx-7705x mp3 hu

Hi all:

i've installed this sony unit for over 6 months now. the sound is great and everything worked except this constant background hissing. I've had this hissing problem on another sony unit as well. I was able to reduce the hissing when i tuned down the mid-range treble. But this tuning option isn't available on the 7705x.

Anyway, i've connected the sony unit with the wires that went into the oem becker unit. So i'm wondering if there's an oem amp behind the rear seat cushion somewhere in this car where i'd be able to find better and cleaner sounding speaker connections for my sony unit?

I know the idea that this car has a separate factory amp sounds far-fetched, since i was able to get sound from the factory wires from the dashboard. But i need to find better speaker connections, at least the ones that won't make any hissing sounds.

Btw, this is a hissing sound at a constant audio level regardless of engine speed or volume level.

Much Obliged!

Mars

I've been thinking about the hissing problem on my 98 e320 (please see this thread: Constant hissing noises from my new sony head unit :( ) and it just occurred to me that my car might have a separate factory amp somewhere. If so, is there a way to wire my sony unit directly to the factory amp to get cleaner sound? I remember doing this exact same thing on my dad's 90 560sel (the rear amps blew so i just installed a new jvc radio with the 4 spear wires going into the amp's wire socket) The result was perfect sound. No hissing whatsoever. If the e320 has a similar setup, can somebody point out the exact location of the amp, and also what kind of wire going in and out of the amp?

Much Appreciated!

Mars

Factory. The constant hiss at low volume or the volume all the way down indicates very poor signal to noise ratio, and the hiss is noise.

hmm.... i get the poor noise-to-signal ratio part, but couldn't the noise come from the sony's internal amp? I don't remember hearing this noise when i had the becker unit (factory hu).

The noise only came on after the becker unit was removed and the sony installed.
