Anyone have 100K of WVOor WVO/ blend use so far

Like the title says, has anyone used WVO or a WVO blend for 100,000 miles yet? If not, how about 50,000 miles? If so, any issues?

Glenn

Here is a Poll I started a while back asking how many VO miles folks had. Most are near or under 50k. There are a few with more than that.

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/269027-poll-how-many-veggie-oil-miles.html

I have just over 50k miles on my system. I put the system in during the fall of 2007, and am still running it. I've never had running issues related VO during that time period, never left me stranded, and have never had starting issues. I try to run diesel purge every so often to help clean up and build-up. Two things I have noticed during this time, is my IP started leaking quite a while ago. The engine has 316k miles on it, so it's hard to really so for sure that it's the veggie oil, but it can't be ruled out. I replaced the original injectors probably about 20k miles ago, they started nailing on cold start ups. I put in Bosch reman injectors. I put them in stock, that is I didn't bump up the pop pressure, probably should have though. They have started nailing again in the past 6-8 months. My take on this is the VO is wearing out the already inferior injectors Bosch remans.

I have a two tank system with a coolant heated tank, fuel lines, and fuel filter, as well as another coolant heater, and two electric heaters and the aux pump of course.

I am going on my fourth year of WVO, and I'm about 5K miles away from 50K miles on the grease. No issues. I did swap out the injectors to Elsbett Technology and added a 30 plate heat exchanger --that was about 2 years ago. No special or extra maintenace that I can think of. Very happy. So, at the 50K mark, assuming 25 MPG and $3.25 for a gallon of diesel, (average over 4 years) that equals $6,500.00 in saved fuel costs. A centrifuge, pump, et cet cost about $500.00 and the Elsbett Technology & HE cost about $500.00. So, that is at about $5,500.00 in the black. So, even if my car should have a major malfunction because of WVO, I am still ahead because the old girl cost less than $2K.

I'll check out the poll next and add more details:

With 3 owners we have 50,000+ on a single tank Elsbett in my '77 300D

that is fairly good considering I have to switch to mostly or all biodiesel for the cold seasons (cursed single tank with no heat)
Hence why my personal conversion coming on the 300TD will be a heated second tank!

Around 40k the sedan's tank was so gummed up that I was changing filters every 2-300 miles
Swapped for a virgin dino tank and went ahead with the needed Purge, new connector lines and replaced the completely deteriorated tank filter! Not a bad job. Flushed hard lines out with acetone.

Have to add my plug here: new paint being sprayed this weekend, then change to euro bumpers and up for sale soon

I've done a little over 160k on creative fuel...either WVO/RUG blend (about 80k), or homemade BD (about 80k). This is on 4 cars, no mods to any cars. The WVO blends went in my 83 and 97 (sold). My other 97 (sold) and my 05 only got BD.

I'm back to running BD on the 83. The 05 (common rail, direct-inject) has only seen BD in the last 37k miles that I've owned it.

I have just over 200,000 miles on grease... a combination of heated WVO (two tank systerm) plus biodiesel and a WVO blend. 280k miles on the truck, original injectors. Vehicle is a 2002 Powerstroke Ford.

Key to success- filtration, filtration, filtration!

I have a 300SD that I plan on running a two tank system.

I have tens of thousands on many cars and trucks, but almost 170,000 on a 1981 240D. I run a modified single tank Lovecraft kit with an additional electric heater to preheat the oil before the engine heat can take over. I change fuel filters a bit more often than when I ran diesel. That's about it. I've had the injectors out, no coking. Harder to start in VERY cold weather. But diesel is no bargain then either, but is a bit easier to start.

30 + K unconverted

driven my 1985 300 D over 30 K, just filter it, add a little gasoline < 5%, pour it in the main & only tank, & drive. Works fine for me, but i only do this in 50 degree F weather and above. Starts every time. Once i had to move the car on a 38 degree day& it started, but idled a bit rough.
once i went out when it was barely 50 degrees, hung out & came home late, barely made the big hill near my place, & when i got home it was 28 D F.
every now & then, throw in a splash of tranny fluid, diesel kleen, and dry gas (heet in the red bottle)
Other thing i've noticed on 3 different w123's is that when 1st running on veggie, it runs fine for about 1K, then goes thru a period when the filter clogs a lot. But after a few hundred miles, maybe draining the tank, it settles down to where i only have to clean the primary filter every month or 2.

3- 300D's & an '81 240 d 4 spd with 90 k, my favorite of the herd.

I have 150k or so since conversion on 82 TD (total miles like 360K). Engine just died, but it was overheated, blown HG or cracked head or both. I do not think it was veg related (?) Oh well, another engine going in now hopefully I'll do another 150K on veg. Save a fortune on my long commute, car paid for itself years ago.

I would not worry about running veg in a IDI. If you are really concerned run water inj which these non IC cars love anyway.

Before this I had a 96 passat Tdi wagon which i put about 125K veg on (275 total when i sold it). Was fine, but not running great at the end. Engine oil increased between changes and ran a bit rough. I am not a big fan of running grease in Tdi's or newer diesel in general. Currently running grease in my 300TD and VW TD samurai

I will pull my engine apart and post pics. I always make a planter out of my dead engine blocks.
