Homemade WVO Kit

I am interested in converting my 123 to WVO. I am not interested in spending the high amount of money to buy a kit. I have a nice aluminum tank for the trunk of my car already. Does anyone have a checklist of things that are needed to make your own kit? I am mechanically inclined and confident I can do the install. I just want a good set up that works well. I know some of you have made your own kits. Chime in please! Thanks.

I'd check out the sticky on WVO and BioD and then come back with specific questions.

that's what I would do too. very nice thread by the way. you can use an aluminium aquarium heater coil for your wvo tank that's cheap. make sure you diminish the chance of air getting into your system, it truly sucks.
anybody have experience with the (cheap) waterseparating (gas) filters you can buy at boater's world? can you filter diesel through a gas filter or would it not go through fast enough/clog up to quick..?

Worth a shot. A filter is a filter. It is a good idea to heat your filter if using veg oil.

Speaking from personal experiance you should make sure that the water/fuel seperator that you get or use IS for DIESEL apllications, or else the filter WILL disentigrate and clog your system.

Interesting. I wonder why a gas filter is not resistant to veg oil but a diesel one is.

Biodiesel can be made from used oil as well.

SVO (straight vegetable oil) and WVO are run with no chemical modification and must be heated to run (correctly). Biodiesel is oil that has undergone a chemical transformation (transesterification) to lower the viscosity.

Thanks for the info. The searching I did mainly came up with ways to make biodiesel more than setting up a car to run on it. I will check out the links posted. Thanks again all!

Do a search also for problems associated with WVO/SVO so that you can avoid them. Biggest problems seem to be caused by lack of heating the oil, using copper components, short cutting filtration, and using Pollock valves.

I want to do the same thing, but I am not too keen on a hose in hose setup. I plan on runningthe lines side by side and cover with A/C line tubular foam insulation.

Back to the spirit of the original post....i have thought of this and hoped i would find a list somewhere online myself. It would make it that much easier to do, but I have not found such a list. Maybe if anyone wants to post their list of parts, it could be a sticky. In the meantime, the only thing that I can suggest, is to check out frybrid, greasecar, etc...and look at their kit contents. They are pretty similar in parts and it has helped me in deciding if I want to do my own kit....wait no it hasnt...im still debating....dang.

filter

You might consider filtering the water from the veg oil before you put it in your tank. There are water block filters available that are reasonable in cost and work well. A downside of this approach is that it does not dry the diesel in your main tank

I like to think of biodiesel as "refined used/new vegi oil". Though you can use just about any oil to make it, not just vegi oil.

I know refined isn't the most accurate term, but it's something that the average person can understand a little better than "chemical transformation/transersterification" (first time I've heard that word, btw)
