Just be carefull when getting oil out of a renderer's dumpster. The dumpster and it's contents are owned by the renderer, and technically you are stealing when you pump out the oil. It doesn' matter if the lid is locked or not. I have heard of people getting in all kinds of trouble for doing this. The renderers are pissed, because they are taking a big hit on the good oil, what they are being left with is crap oil that is worth much less to them, and they apparently want to make an example out of the people who do get caught. I've heard of people getting fined for not only the theft, but also for transporting in a non DOT approved container, with a truck not rated to transport the weight of the containers. And if they really don't like you, they will get you for not paying your road taxes. In fact, there was a guy around here in the newspaper, they had done a story on his use of veggie oil. Well, a few weeks later he was contacted by the feds and forced to pay back road taxes. Around here they are starting to build metal fencing around the dumpsters, and I imagine they will be doing this more as more people are looking to get free oil. It's nice to get 50 gallons of free fuel, but when you look at what fines you may get if you are caught, it really isn't worth it. It's better to work with the restaurant owner and work out an agreement where they dump the oil into your container, and you pick it up on a scheduled basis.

Does anyone know if you can make a simple DIY SVO kit for cheap? Maybe something similar to the one at fattywagons.com. Just a few ceramic heaters attached to the injector lines to preheat the oil. fattywagons charges $350. It just seems more like $50-$100 worth of material.

Anyone?

simplest

the simplest svo kits is to pour it straight into your tank..
that is what I do... and many others... it works fine...
In the winter time thin it with a little kerosene, diesel, or gas.

You can very possibly get some serious misinformation because you haven't put your location or your vehicle info in your profile.

Geographic location is critical for good advice on this topic...

You may pour SVO directly into your fuel tank above 40F.

WVO must be dewatered + cold filtered (70F or lower), boil off the water, do not spill WVO on your paint, clean spills when they happen.

If possible; find a heavy equipment/hydraulic shop willing to give you their used hydraulic oil, you can filter and run this 100% pure on cold (below 40F) days + add a quart to every tank of WVO for lubrication.

Check this!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=180002271179&ih=008&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Where can I throw that inline to heat my SVO? Just after the fuel filter??

Thoughts?? Seems pretty sweet to me.

Advice on my 84 300SD veggie conversion in FLORIDA

All this stuff is confusing. I know I read of a german company that sells injectors designed just for veggie oil. Does anyone recommend this?

Do I need a second tank for Florida? Do I need to heat my oil?

I don't want to give my $$$ to the middle east anymore!!! Please offer advice.

Bob
