Jennifer,
That looks like the little plastic water guard that is attached to the vent on top of the tranny. Transmissions develop pressure as they heat up so MFGs put a vent hole on top. Have this reattached by your mechanic, but I suspect it is broken and needs to be replaced. If you ignore it and don't have one installed, you run a great risk of getting water in your trans during rainy weather or when washing the car. This is not a good thing. It could cost you a couple thousand dollars. Peter

That also leads me to think your drive train needs new mounts, otherwise there is almost no way to break that vent!

Oakie, what happened with conversion to 4spd. manual from 240D that you were asking about in your original thread?
Next thing we heard you were spinning the steering wheel, slamming into corners, when car hurled into 3rd gear making you happy. And now you've got transmission throwing parts all over the road? |

Hi Guys-
Came across this 1967 250S with no motor and a manual tranny. Guy gave it to me free- towed it home. Was going to switch trannys but not yet - still have some homework to do. I realized my 1970 250C needed new motor mounts probably new tranny mounts too. The whole initial problem is; the 1970 250C won't shift into 3rd and 4th Gear only when It wants to. Bunch of crap. From 1st to 2nd its cool and then the engine just revs up but sometimes not very often it will switch into 3rd- you can keep it in low gear by pressing gas a baby bit when you are at a stoplight or something. The guy who I bought it from said some kid that has it before rebuilt tranny and it was probably mis-aligned. How in the heck do you check something like that? I just kind of want to save a trannys life. No reason to put the other tranny in if this one is still good.....? Anyways I have just been driving it like that no faster than 35. Im just pondering what to do. Ive taken it to a couple of Mercedes Mechanics and one said throttle arm might be stuck. The other wanted to charge me 2500.00 for a new tranny install after he smirked to the other Mechanic. I dont know what to do - sh** is falling off my tranny - look at my other posts.. Any feedback is so much appreciated - and if anyone needs any wood trim off of a 1967 250S or anything else you see in picture let me know. Grill is perfect! Thanks dosoakies |

This sounds like modulator and band adjustment trouble and may not be that expensive to fix. You need to find a transmission shop that will take the time to diagnose the problem.
Good luck.

Boning the '67 250Sb for parts?? Hell yes, the wood trim interests me...... especially if it includes window strips, glove box, ashtray and compete dashboard that i will put aside for my dream car project - an old finbody diesel souped up with modern 240 engine.
Gotta find yerself a real mechanic on location at CA - somebody to install clutch pedal (easily done) and shorten the driveshaft while keeping it ballanced for conversion from sloppy automatic to hot-rod stick shift. Critical questions remain: 1) Does the '67 tranny bell housing bolt onto your 250C engine block? 2) Can flywheel and clutch be located that are compatiable with 250C engine..... AND compatiable with '67 clutch bearing and throwout arm? 3) Are there any discrepancies in the pilot bearing to accomodate both '70 250 engine and '67 clutch spindle? 4) Can common 240D stick shift linkage be adapted to fit both the '67 manual tranny and the '70 console...... assuming the 250Sb is column shift. Jennifer, if you discover in your homework that 240D shift linkage from an '82 will fit the conversion..... then i will swap parts for the 250Sb wood trim.

Heres some pics of the 250S
Hi 240DieselDog. Here are some pics of my 250S parts and whatever else you want from it. Let me know whatever. Hey If I take a quick pic of my engine like right side, middle, left side - do you think you could tell me what is missing?? I went to pick and pull today and this one Mercedes was pretty much same as mine but way different setup. Whoa. I think I am missing all kinds of vaccuum stuff. Anyways I truly appreciate all help.
Sorry for smoke in pic. it is beautiful wood.... |

Folks -
The 250S tranmission is not going to work in the 114. I tried this with a trans from a 280S donor car. It is the top-linkage type and the 114 needs the side linkage. I think that the bellhousing, flywheel, and clutch will work, though. Not sure about the pedal assembly.

Unfortunately the 108 wood trim will only fit another 108..... i was thinkin it was finbody 111/ 250S - with wood trim that can fit any finbody including the humble 110 diesel. Am guessing what you've got there is first year rare Euro stick shift model.
Vacuum lines are difficult to sort out - but am thinkin you on right track that vacuum lines can source your tranny problems...... meanwhile you've gotta get new tranny and engine mounts to prevent the engine and tranny from shakin itself to bits. |
