Lube for speedometer gears?
I am refurbishing the instrument cluster on the 280C (new clock, block off the shift indicator, new bulbs). And one of the tasks is getting the odometer to work. I have done that but would also like to lube the little plastic gears since the old grease is completely dry. Any recommendations as to what to use? It looks sort of like the lube for the rubbing block on the points.
TIA.

Chuck:
I've had great luck at work lubing plastic gears with white silicone grease. I don't remember the brand, it's a fairly common thing nowadays, I think. We use it on the nylon drive gears for some Technicon peristaltic pumps -- used to have to replace the gears every six month or a year, but since I switched to the silicone grease and Mobil 1 on the rollers and rails, I've not replace a single set!
