Vintage Mercedes Tools?
Still helping a friend of mine work through his collection of vintage Mercedes parts/cars/etc. He unearthed a toolbox full of what he recalls are vintage mercedes special tools. Some of the larger/more complex tools have Mercedes tags and handwritten p/n's. The smaller bits and pieces have no identifying marks, and I'm pretty lost as to what they do. Trying to figure out if these should be sold as a package, or individually. If they all work together on more-or-less the same model(s) then I figure I'll sell them together. So does anyone know what this stuff does? There are a few more small tools I didn't photograph. Figured I'd start with these.

One easy way to get a general idea what they each go to is to add a "W" to the first three letters and that will identify the chassis designation. If you google W187 for example you can see one example of the cars they go to.
A desirable assortment, no idea on value, but you will have interest from the vintage mechanic crowd and they would certainly find a good home with Mercmad6.3.

MB has a special tool database:
STAR TekInfo You can do a search on the numbers. Unfortunately, it only has the tools which are still available, so if the tools are not available anymore from MB, it will yield no result. |

Thanks for the responses so far. I'll dig into those databases and see what I can find out. Unfortunately the only ones with tags are the ones in the first few photos. Some of the rest have stamped or etched numbers I need to try to clean off and read, but it seems that most are unmarked as far as I can tell. There is one more picture of the remaining tools I'll post shortly.
They will all be for sale. I certainly have no use for them, and neither does their current owner. His last remaining mercedes is quite a bit too new for these tools. At one time he had quite a few old mercedes and he took in and parted out quite a few extras to keep his cars running. I'm trying to help him clean up his place and his outbuildings, and much of it has been straightforward in terms of parts with numbers and obvious descriptions and uses. These tools have actually been sitting in my garage for many months now as I tried to figure out what to do with/about them. I mainly need to figure out the best way to group them (are there several tools for one specific engine, for instance) and perhaps a rough idea on value. They're pretty heavy, and frankly they need to find a new home in the near future, but I do try to get him a fair price for all the parts and such that I've been selling. |
