On the radio
How long do you commute, and what do you listen to on the radio while you're sitting in your car?
I used to listen to the Greaseman. Anybody here heard him? He got too big for his britches and left DC for Hollywood. Now I listen to Howard Stern. He is like the PT Barnum of the 21st century. The parade of bizzare characters that pass through his studio is truly fascinating, if often disgusting.

I signed up with XM radio for the 300TE and the E320. Now all I listen to are the Comedy Channels. I am so much more relaxed. Talk radio was getitng to be such a PITA. I hate both the left wing and the right wing extremists. I was driving the 300TE when a comedian (I think it was Dane Cook) began making fun of Benz wagons ("...great idea, spend $60k on a car just to take it to Home Depot to haul bags of fertilizers... ."). I was laughing so hard other drivers were looking at me like if I was a crazy man. ![]() Dane Cook, Lewis Black, John Pinette, et al. My new driving companions! I used to like Howard Stern. Then he became just like the whining Long Island yentas that he is always criticizing. His show turned into one big whining session...

Now, it's usually oldies or Sirius sat. radio talkshows, unless there's a Cubs game on. Then it's Pat & Ron on WGN 720AM!

Since I do contractual rennovations...my commute varies everyday...however, when going to school it can be upwards of 40 mins to and 20 back...in the morning I listen to Preston and Steve on 93.3 WMMR.
They're a pretty funny duo that is a little less crass than Opie and Anthony when they were on here. If you're tired of Stern's schtick, these guys are a slight change of pace. For the ride home I use the CD changer since my AM doesn't work. HA, otherwise I'd listen to sports talk on 610 WIP Preston and Steve have a podcast and can be found at www.prestonandsteve.com if anyone is interested.

My commute from the Occupied West Bank of the Mississippi to uptown New Orleans is about 9 miles, 25 minutes in the morning before the rush, 35 during 5:00 drive time.
On the way in, I listen to a comedy team who have been around for more than 20 years, Walton and Johnson. Their show, out of Houston now, has evolved with the times. Once full of comic commercials and jokes about local N.O. celebrities, it's become more of a call-in talk/observation/rant fest . . . though still with the comic characters such as Billy Ed Hatfield (he of the double-wide trailer and "big ol' wife Praline"), Mr. Kenneth the flamboyantly gay entertainment commentator, and Mr. Eaux, the "sports reporter and rep for the brothers everywhere." In the afternoon, I listen to a local FM oldies station, the reincarnation of WTIX-AM (which most of Noo Awlins grew up with), with "Oldie King" Bob Walker. Traffic "reports" are done by one Sergeant T. Ben Boudreaux, who wears a coonskin cap; sends Stumpy, his "boneless, toothless Traffic Wonder Dog," out to get his outlandish dinners; and refers to accidents thusly: "It's a crash-boom-bammer, a bad mamma-slammer . . . the noxious mephitis of misery on an otherwise tolerable day." .

My commute is barely 9 miles and takes 15 minutes. In the morning I listen to BBC World News, and in the evening, Michael Savage. I can't stand him, but I listen anyway.

my commute is 56 mi rd trip, 30 or 45 mins each way
sirius channels: 36/backspin/5/6/8/9/1 If for some horrible reason, I dont have sirius available, I try to tune in NPR - the content to commercial ratio is better than most stations. I have been really spoiled by the sat. radio. How much is a lifetime subscription ? michael Savage ? I listened to him on the way home from class for about a week - interesting in a train-wreck kinda way... The local AM talk stations arent bad otherwise, but too many ads. -John

My commute is 25 miles each way. Mostly I listen to the OM616 doing its thing. If there's traffic, or I feel like some music, I turn on the old Becker Europa and listen to:
KBULL-country BOB-(Best Of Best) aka mostly classic rock with a few other odds and ends thrown in. The River-Oldies station The previous daily driver had a 1300 cc engine, loud exhaust installed by the PO, and no radio. The '77 240D is an improvement. In other news, I realized today that I've had my 300D for eight months and still haven't checked to see if the tape deck works.
