OM616 Injection Line Fitment Issue
I have started some other threads about an injection pump swap I did on my fathers car, a 1983 240D.
We put a euro motor in the car, and the euro M pump did not have provisions for the automatic transmission VCV so I swapped back to a US Spec MW pump. Got the pump on and timed (I think, something that seemed so simple proved tough). Now I need to put back on the injecition lines. The lines that were on the euro motor with M pump look very different than the US spec lines. I have a set of US lines from a '79 4speed car. Neither the '84 euro lines, nor the '79 US lines will fit onto the '84 motor with the '83 pump. Is it reasonable to have to do some slight bending to the hard lines to get them to fit? We are talking a couple of degrees, not a ton. Like the injector line nut will touch the injector, but not at the right angle to thread up. I was curious if minor line modifications are normal after changing pumps, or its indicative of me botching the timing job. Thanks! |

As the Fuel Injection lines get old they sort of work harden making them stiffer then when they were new. You can bend them a little but be sure the Line Clamps go back on.
About 4 Years ago at the Junk Yard they wanted $5 per a single line. That is not terribly expensive.

The pump can be rotated to a few degree to adjust timing.
If the new pump is not installed in the same position then the old one, the lines will not fit and have to be bend. Bent the lines to fit your pump and injectors. Then remove them and blow them out with compressed air. The bending may loosen up deposits inside the lines, this particles can damage your injectors if not removed from the lines.
