Houston ,WE HAVE A PROBLEM -Starter went Kaput at work yesterday, thought it might be a battery until I tried jumping it with a buddies Dodge truck ,it and was still a no go for ignition. The solenoid is cheaper than buying the whole starter ,any good MB solenoid suppliers out there.Me and some co -workers got it push started after finding out yeh olde starter wasnt going for its last turn, thats why these standard MBs rule.Drove off without spinning a wrench.

No "Push Start" MB s (Too easy to Damage)
"Pull Start" (Tow "U" under front bumper)
Ask Lee at the Buy Parts tab above about the "Bendix". If he doesn't have it ,call these guys: http://www.wagneralt.com

it could still be just a battery.
few and far between are the jumper cables capable of starting our diesel engines with a dead battery in the mix.

Yes a starter r and r is a fair amunt of work. before doing that I would look carefully at all electrical connections for good contact. It would be a shame to r and r the starter, install a new solinoid and discover it did not solve the problem!
![]() The starters do not last forever but they are extremely long lived. I have had over 30 old benzes (mostly with high miles) or so and cannot remember ever replacing a solinoid or a starter, though it is possible I did and forgot.

I have not had to replace the solinoid (bendix).
If its having trouble turning the car, chances are you have a bad battery or more likely a bad connection some where. Clean all your connections first especially the earth strap. Make sure it has a good battery & give it a try. Jumper leads have never worked for me. You would be better with a change over starter if the solinoid is bad, the rest of the starter will be on the way out. Good luck
