Machinist help needed: warped water pump pulley
I'm working on a 1985 300D turbo. The water pump double pulley is warped.
The water pump was leaking so I replaced it and transfered the pulley to the new pump. I thougt it was the water pump wobbling but when I transfered the pulley to the new water pump the wobble was still there. The pulley warpage is not visible except when the vehicle is running at which point the pulley and clutch fan wobble is very obvious. I took the pulley back off and when i rotate it on the old pump in a vise I can see the pulley is slightly deformed (maybe 3/16" out of plane at the outer edge). I suspect the deformation is due to a slight bend at the pulley to water pump mounting surface. My best guess how this happened was that the pulley hung up on the damper pulley and the pulley bolts were snugged down, then it was put on right but the pulley remained deformed. I suspect it took down the water pump. The dealer wants over $150 for the pulley. Is my only other option a wrecking yard or could a machinist put it on a lathe or mill and gently work it back (brass mallet or bending)? I want to get it all back together this monday and don't have much time to drive around to wrecking yards.
Thanks
