Whoever quoted you $225 for a Provent is trying to rip you off. Try www.airnowsupply.com , $140 for a complete unit and $25 for a spare filter element.

Mine is about 3 or 4 feet from the tip. If you lay underneath the car and the sun is just right, you can see a little discoloration. Otherwise, it can idle all day and you probably won't see squat

I've ordered 2 Provents and 2 spare filters from Air Now Supply, $140 for the Provent and $25 for the spare filter. Check under the section for VW TDI owners at the bottom of the page. Also check Reliable Industries, about $20 higher for the Provent itself, but still nowhere near $225!!!

You can get the compressor water seperators for like $11, they are the smaller ones, and the plumbing stuff would be about $9, for a total of $20. I am planning on doing a similar mod on my Tacoma with the parts listed above. When I get another 300D, I will do the same exact thing...

Not sure. I just came accrss some while browsing. They look to be similar (inlet, outlet and oil outlet)

I finally found a 240d air/oil separator, and I was hoping to install it soon. I know the design was "improved" to have the separator inside the airbox with the 300d and onward, but if 240Ds are still on the road today with their separate oil separators, i don't see what's wrong with using that design on a 300d.

Found it at a junkyard, and a nice armrest. Got both for $5!

the 240D oil seperators came out long after the "in the airbox" ones. only 82 and 83 if i'm not mistaken.

I've had one on my 300CD for awhile now.

I got my aircraft oil separator today. I plumbed it up with clear tubing for now. This way I can see the amount of oil before and after.

It's working well so far. After a month, there is about 3 fluid ounces of oil in my catch bottle and I have not seen any drips from the vent tube onto the ground.

The oil separator has three legs.
#1. Crank case vapor pressure output...
#2. Vent to intake air, (draws off pressure).
#3. Oil return line, (pressure neutral, gravity feed).
Loose any of these, and it will damage your engine.

* Lose #1 and spray oil out, potentially until the engine is empty.
* Lose #2 and build crank case pressure until you blow enough seals/gaskets to relieve pressure.
* Lose #3 and drain oil out, potentially until the engine is empty.
