Delivery valve still leaks Turbo 617

1983 300SD. I replaced the copper sealing ring at the base of the delivery valve (P/N 000 074 1559) because the delivery valve was leaking. Everything was carefuuly cleaned and torqued to spec (one time torque per factory spec). the leak is reduced but the delivery valve still leaks diesel. I tried torquing a bit more but still a leak. I will go back and do it again but should anything else be replaced , eg the delivery valve or valve holder? This application (Turbo 617) does not have an o-ring.

TX

Do you mean the primer pump? Mine leaked terribly. If you have the old type with the white top I would replace it. The new type is great and less than $20.

Nothing to do with the primer pump. The delivery valves (5 of them) are on the IP

I would try again with another new sealing ring. Sop up the fuel in the bore and see if there is a hair on the surface - even that will cause a little leak. The surface on the bottom of the delivery valve too might be gouged allowing fluid to seep by through the groove. Clean it with rubbing alcohol and coat with some prussian blue. If it still leaks you can remove again and maybe the marks against the bluing will tell you something.

I have sanded them on 1,000 grit wet or dry paper...and hit it with a propane torch for 2 or 3 seconds to take the work hardening out of it....to great success. Suspended by a wire coathanger of course...........

For who ever may read this string again...I redid the same work by replacing the copper seal again and torqued to spec. No more leak. I guess the cheap and easy solution was the right choice here.
