Good article. As has been pointed out in other threads the diesel hybrid would be best! So far those are only in diesel locomotives and other large type industrial equipment. TDI is definitely the most bang for your buck. When you consider the engine life for the typical diesel is significantly longer than a gasser with the similar maintenance they really pay off! I would like to see the 2.7 CDI in medium Chrysler/Dodge or C class mercedes in the US. The jeep liberty CDI(CRD). What engine is in that dude(sounds like a piece of **** after reading another thread)?

in the liberty i believe is a four cylinder version of the 320cdi. i hear it is turbocharged. i would think it will be a nice unit. haveing driven a 320 which drives like a muscle car.

Thats weird, I just read that article on msn...then I came on the forums, and here it was! Mercedes says some 200,000 of their diesel cars are operating on US roads at the present....wow...I'm part of an extreme minority.

I hate to break it to you all but the 2.8L CRD is NOT Mercedes made.

"Daimler-Chrysler decided not to use a Mercedes-Benz CDI engine in the Jeep Liberty. Instead it is a VM Motori 2.8L VNT/VGT turbo 4 cylinder manufactured in Italy. Apparently the engine has been out for quite some time and shouldn't have reliability issues, though that is yet to be proven in the USA."
