I would love to have better filtration, but I do not want to have to modify the filter mount for a 16MM bolt, or such.

Thanks,

With the CAT Filter Mod you do not change the Filter Housing. You have to make a Threaded Adapter that the Stock Filter Bot Threads into. You do need to make a plate to space the Stock Filter Housing 1 inch or so away from the cross Member the Filter Housing Mounts to.

It was the Baldwind BD**** Filter that you needed to modify the Housing for a larger Central Bolt.

One thing no one speaks of is that some Water Separator type Filters are made to be used on the Suction Side of the Fuel Supply System.
You need to do a little research to find out if it can go on the pressure side and how much pressure it can take.

I picked the CAT Filter after reading an article in a VW TDI Forum and reading what CAT had to say about the Filter. Also CATs quality is well known.
Using the Stock Housing kept the under the Hood space close to stock and allowed me to install a By-pass Oil filter in the area that could have been used for add on Water Separator.

RACORs quality is also well know but there systems cost quite a bit. Also a RACOR Water Separator with a Filter Element a similar size of the CAT Filter Element would take up a lot of room and be expensive.

The CAT Filter has no Drain or Bowl to visualize the crap that gets into the Fuel but I have been driving Diesel Cars sinc 1992 with and I have yet to get a bad load of Fuel.

I bought a small CAT Water Separator similar to the Standyne one mentioned in another Thread. I had planed to replace the Plastic Primary Filter. However, I found it only has a Screen inside as a Filter and the Water is separated by an expansion Chamber and a change in direction of the Fuel Flow.
Have never installed it.
