W108 hood ornament

The star hood ornament on my '72 w108 280se has met it's demise. Instead of forking out $80 bucks for another fragile star I'm thinking about mounting some other type of bow sprite up there. Maybe something like a naked lady, a swan, a roaring lion, or an elephant. Most of what I have found are huge, ghastly, and not dignified at all. Hopefully I'll find something that looks grand but not too overstated.

Has anyone on the BB changed out their mascot for another? If so please post a picture and note where you found it.

Now lets review! This star is 37 years old! Man it is fragile isn't it. Seriously, just buy a replacement. After all this is a Mercedes not a Ford Granada

I have some horns off of a 1927 Chrysler. How about mounting them up there? They are six volt horns, so they are really loud on 12 volts. They're about two and a half feet long, so there's no room under the hood.

the star and only the star will reside on the front of a Mercedes Benz automobile. The star is dignified, properly stated, and will always lead the way on a Mercedes Benz automobile. Never a swan, elephant, bowling trophy, nor the Spirit of Ecstasy from a Rolls.

I have a Chrysler-Pentastar off an '80s Fifth Avenue I was going to mount on my 240D - until Daimler-Chrysler got divorced!

The "Death Proof" is huge. I was thinking of something more like this 4" high lion.

Or possibly an eagle

Though the wife gave me the go ahead for a naked lady, at 7" to 9", the ones that I have found are too big for my taste

You're kidding...right ?

Put the 3 pointed star back on it man !

If you don't want to shell out for a new one, you could probably get one from a junkyard if you looked long enough.

Why spoil one of the most beautiful front ends in automotive history

About 40 years ago ,a guy at school with me showed me his grandfathers 220SE which had a microswitch under the star. Move the star and the horns would go off. There was a relay which was disconnected when the car was started. He never lost a star to thieving scum.
