...to think these beautiful cars were once fairly common as used cars, sheesh!

+++ I WISH +++

My wish came through
Just bought a pair from Australia + some nick-nacks.
There will be here in 2-3 months
The minor (to me) problem is that they are for a right hand drive car, so, I'll be blinding oncoming traffic.
I'll be a good boy and fix that for sure :p

LOL ... how strange. Here in OZ where pretty much all of these cars have the euro lights as standard we generally think the twin light vertically stacked US lights look better! Cant say the same for the SL however ..... the euro light winds hands down over those nasty looking side by side twins

Thumbs down Insurance claim

Guess what!?
I have to make the claim from here and send the headlight (in its original box and packeging material no less) back to OZ post office for assesment of damage!
I knew it was going to be a PITA...

And there is a subplot to this pathetic affaire : The seller in OZ sent me two different light....a good condition one (wich is the one that was smashed) and a poor condition one... now that would have looked good on my car both light were described as above good in condition.....this is another battle in itself The poor one as a yellowish hue lens!!

here is an inside view of the top reflector. I can't see any difference...can you?

And yet another reason I don't have Euro lights on my 220S. I hate buying expensive items 'long-distance' that I can't examine first. Got burned twice on Ebay in the past year - first time was a $75 Land Rover 'factory' shop manual, that turned out to be a poor copy with all the page numbers shaved off and some pages/sections missing entirely.
Last, a vintage Grundig tape recorder that I paid for over a month ago and haven't received it or any replies from the seller. I'm only out $28 on that one. I'm sure those 'good condition' Euro lights were much more.

Good luck, Mark

I'll have a look around. If I ever come across some good euro lamps, i'll let you know.

Lower reflector...now this is what I call "good" condition....

Notice the seal on the right.....its dry and britle with what seems to be "fungy" (the green stuff) groing in and around it.

Mark, you are right...never buy things you don't need.

Manya, my budget for euros is in the garbage...but you never know! if you hapen to stumble on a "good" pair....

I haven't finish negociating with the seller(s) it's a couple from (edited for now).
They seem honest and mistake do happen........

If I do not get satisfaction, I will "build" them a nice web page with a link in my sig.

Dan

Dan,
I just 'won' a pair of W111/108 Euro headlamps off Ebay (despite your unfortunate experience). They looked acceptable in the photos (but you know how that goes) At least, mine are coming from New York, not Austrailia. Did you ever resolve your headlight nightmare? Thanks to your photos, I know what I may have to deal with.

Happy Motoring, Mark
