W111 arm rest/centre seat?

Hi all,

I was looking at this car.

Then I saw this pic (attached)

I saw that the front arm rests have an extra central rest/seat, which I haven't seen before. My car does not have one, but it does have the same tray between the seats in which the rest/seat fits. Would it have been an optional extra? What is it for?

Extra cushion option I think. I think "scoot" in so cal collected a few of these and was selling for $300+

My former 1971 280se coupe had the same armrests in Cognac.

I have on my 62 a fold down arm rest on the drivers seat and when not in use a separate piece that sits in the tray. If I have the arm rest down the separate piece goes to the passengers in the rear as a handy arm

Emergency seat , not exactly comfortable or safe - but this was the 60s after all.
Perhaps a lesser cost optional arm rest than the alternative swing forward arm rests?

The technical description is "Seat Adapter". It's a cushion that matches the fold-down arm rests and sets in the parcel tray (occasionally sits on tunnel without parcel tray) with the idea being that 3 people could sit in front. It's a cool option that is never used but looks neat.

I have about 10 of them that I have on ebay. Three have sold. If you pm me what you are looking for I'll let you know if I have it. The ones I have range from early W110/W111/W112 through late W108/W109.

Yes they were called armrests or center seats, but try the center seat part now (mandatory seat belts) and you can sit someone there as much as you have points on your DL or money in your pocket...lol

you can look there are alot of folks that reproduce them, if you are looking for one that matches the age and more of the "original" aged feel check out EBAY or EBAY.de .. it is good for some things and that is one of them, they are often on there.

People call them armrests when they don't know what they are. They make horrible armrests because they are way too low (i.e., seat height). My understanding is that "mandatory seat belt" laws do not apply to cars that did not originally come with seat belts, at least in California.

I have absolutely never heard of these being reproduced. Please share a link if you find one.
