1987 300D turbo #1, aka The Blue Bomb
Finally, after over 3 years of collecting stuff I packed the Blue Bomb up, sent her to the bodyshop and decided on the paint scheme. I had seen a 190E in Europe that looked like what I wanted to achieve and I believe I came pretty close. The body panels and AMG gen1 ground effects/rocker panels are painted a Saab color, Arctic silver. In the bright sun the silver shows a bluish tint. The side panels are not high gloss clearcoat rather a matte finish that looks better to me. The rear bumper pad is from a '94-'95 and is charcoal black for contrast. If I had to do it over again I would stick with the early W124 bumper because the impact pads are soft and recover from contact with another car while parking, etc. The 94-95 strips are made of a hard plastic and I wonder how that even absorbs energy because its not backed by the foam filler pads that the early 124's use. The later impact strips wrap around towards the rear wheel well and looks a bit more refined even if that doesn't serve any added purpose.

My '87 300D called the Blue Bomb side view. Help! I need AMG jack hole covers for Rt side! The mileage is actually approx 225K, this speedo is a donor from a gasser. Love the better light it delivers! Here's what inspired me to use this color combo, its actually a 201 Sport model in the UK. nice, huh?

dieseldiehard Thanks for the comments! I replaced the wheels this summer with the same type but non-chromed, one of the ones in the pics was damaged when the rim hit a pothole. Another Forum member had a mint set that I was able to pick up and the car looks so much better now. I guess I need to update the pictures. Its a dream to drive this car, handling is much better than OE. I figure the actual mileage accrued every December, I think its just about to hit 300K. 11-23-2013
ruchase Nice work - it looks really clean. Wheels are a personal choice, but the overall car is definitely a stunner. 11-23-2013
dieseldiehard OK, yes I know bling is right but well the wheels have to be there because OE wheels won't clear the 500E brakes. And they were cheap, including good tires. 06-04-2009
