2001 C-Class Remote Windows Down Option
I like how you can open and close the windows in my car with the remote by using the lock/unlock buttons.. However the only time it works is when im 2 feet from the car... The lock and unlock feature for the door locks work from a very far distance but not the windows... any idea how i can correct this?

There was an update on the keys. You need to get your keys replaced under warranty.
Good luck, |

I don't remember exactly when, but they replaced BOTH of my keys under warranty. My car is a very early '01 model, I took delivery within 30 days of the first 203 car being shipped to the states. It could be that your car is a little later built, after the key was updated. If he just told you without looking up your VIN or anything, then he might be blowing smoke.
I do know that on MY car there was a recall on the keys. These keys work by IR and RF. My early 210 car had only IR, but it still worked more than five feet from the car. I think you need to investigate a little further. I would suggest starting your research in the owners manual. It is very complete. Good luck, |

The lock/unlock system uses "radio" frequency but the window operation uses an infra-red signal so YOU must be with-in 2 meters for operation & point directly at an infra-red receiver.

If you are accurate with your "aim" at the receiver, you should be able to operate from about 10 ft or so, based on past experience. Possibly the batteries are getting weak in the key, or the window is scratched or dirty on the key, or the receiver on the car is dirty, or has wax on it..
