'89 300 SEL cruise control
300SEL, 1989.
Cruise control is continually searching for the right speed, fluctuates in a 3 mph range, up and down, over and over. Unusable because of the surging. It basically holds a speed but surges back and forth to do it. It has worked fine for years, then this condition started. My mechanic says it probably is either the amplifier or the actuator, but he is not sure. any suggestions? Thanks Ladster1

Your mechanic's right! (My bet's on the amp though.) Do a search; there's tons here on dealing with this well known problem. Good luck!

It boils down to resoldering the electronics.
