ML Fuel Gauge

I understand that a lot of the ML's have problems with the fuel gauge. Something about the gauge not actually registering the amount of fuel in the tank but showing a "calculated" reading. In my ML, when the gauge gets below 1/2 tank, the gauge will vary as much as a 1/4 tank every time I start the car. Does anyone know how to bypass this "calculation" nonsense and make the gauge tell me how much fuel is left in the tank?

Workings of fuel tank gauge -

The "real" fix (irregardless of what kind of hoops MB tries chasing you through) is to disable this whole "virtual calculation" BS. It can be changed in the instrument cluster (with the MB shop computer, SDS) to operate only off of the actual fuel level sender, and it'll work great. I hope this helps

ps I see on your profile you have a 98, unsure if the early ones used the virtual calculation method or not.
I like your handle, why B52?

Gilly-
Thanks for the info.
Why B-52? I used to do demolition derbies at the county fair every year and that was my car number.
