Need help converting 95 E320 to microsquirt
Hi everyone! First Mercedes and I want to convert it to microsquirt for the following reasons
1-I have full control of the engine parameters 2-Cheap ( Entire computer and wiring harness is less than 400$) 3-Simple and reliable 4-Afraid of the original harness failing and dbw throttle body. I have converted a LS1 Engine to run on microsquirt and its super easy. I even build entire engine harnesses from scratch for the LS series engine. My plan is too... Use a drive by cable throttle body like this Use GM coolant temp and IAT sensors Hopefully the factory crank sensor will work on microsquirt. I dont know yet if it will. How is the transmission controlled? Will this be an issue? Has anyone done this before with the factory fuel injection setup? |

You will get more traffic on the Performance section so move it there or at least post a link to where this goes so it isn't a lost thread. Someone on that had some this before.
In general: 95 will have a hydraulic shift trans so nothing new needed there. Many cars have an up shift delay solenoid to make the trans shift late when the engine is completely cold ( this heats up the cats ) For your trans it just bleeds governor pressure. I'm pretty sure 95 still uses a 3 wing crank wheel ( on the flex plate. ) I know that 96 and up used a 60-2 and they physically are interchangeable far as I know. ( check the torque converter bolt spacing, there was a change along the way near as I recall.) The 95 and older " might " be a hall effect as I've seen some reference to a magnet on the plate, 96 and up is a mag pickup. I'd tend to open up the throttle body on the car then lock to the linkage and add an external TPS. |

The throttle body linked has a throttle switch and not a tps sensor. I think SL320 is right about the flywheel. Three teeth wont cut it for MS. I use a later model 60-2 flywheel on my 103 engine with a late model crank sensor and have zero triggering problems. I did have to space the crank sensor out a few mm to get the gap right. You can just use the MB coolant and air temp sensors no problem.

Wow thanks for the great tech help! The flywheel sounds good but im a bit lazy to separate a trans to do it. I might put a reluctor wheel on the balancer and try that for now. Anyone have any ideas on a throttle body that might work?

Don't really need a TPS for the fueling application. You can go 100% MAP sensor.
That's how I am running my M110.

Well I got the car! It looks great and only has a few issues so far. The climate control speed is stuck on low. Fixed that with the voltage regulator from the pic apart for free. Next issue is the air pump was making alot of noise. Pulled the belt off and the pulley almost fell off! I removed the entire pump and got a shorter belt since I dont need that pump in use. I found out the Drive by wire throttle body is mechanically operated so Ill keep that for the conversion.

Also from the pic a part I got two mass air flow sensors, two voltage regulators for the blower fan, a diverter valve, two more throttle bodies, a blower fan, a radio, and a set of 4 piston calipers off a s500. Got all this stuff pulled in an hour. Next is take make a new wiring harness
