W115 Windshield Washer
Now that we're getting some dirty weather, I've had to put my windshield washers into service on my '76 300D- I've only had car since September, so hasn't been an issue until now. So- it has that almost silly foot pedal arrangement to activate the sprayers and automatic 3 to 5 sweeps of the wipers. Trouble is, the spray is very inconsistant. Sometimes it comes out of one side and not the other- then does a switcheroo. Other times it won't spray at all. Rarely does it give good spray on both sides. I've cleaned out both hood mounted nozzles with a hat pin, and really found they weren't clogged anyway. Also disconnected lines at various points, and when peddle is pushed, it pours out of the lines good and strong. I assume these work on vacuum, like most other accessories (must do, because they spray when engine is off and key is not even in the ignition switch).
Any ideas? I do have a couple of vacuum issues occasionally- mainly that when driving with doors LOCKED, the cruise control doesn't work well, and the engine won't shut off. When doors are unlocked, everything is fine- except the sprayers. Dave '76 White 300D W115 "Pearl" |

Every time I get a "new" old Mercedes, I have to replace the squirter jets to solve that problem. If you have a 115 where the foot pump still works, you are lucky. I understand the replacement part is no longer available. Mine had been converted to an electric pump before I got it.

Foot Pump??? Well, that explains a lot! Would suggest that I have to keep stomping on it right? I thought it was just a press and hold thing, opening a vacuum valve that made it spray. Geez, it might have been better to run it off the spare tire- like old Beetles. Converting to an electric pump is an excellent sugestion. Does the switch for an electric pump conversion remain under the funkey foot peddle?

I had a similar problem on a t-bird vintage 70's. Turned out that there was a matt of ***** inside the spray nozzles. Sticking a pin in only push it to the back of the nozzle reservoir (like 1cm^3) behind the jet. As soon as you tried them again, it jammed into the start of the nozzle choking any flow.
Maybe a good idea to replace them as Palanji suggests Ron

If the foot pump is still working, one push should squirt an adequate amount. On my old 240D, the PO had taken out the radio fader and installed a push switch in its place which activated a washer pump borrowed from some other car model. Not elegant, but it worked OK.
