Philippines
I don't if you've been watching the weather, but the Philippines are experiencing a cataclysmic disaster from the largest typhoon to hit land in history. 195 mph sustained, gusting to 240, 50 ft storm surge. I have a few Filipino friends on Cebu. I don't how they're doing. My heart aches for them.

I have a good friend, a former Catholic monk, who retired in the Phillipines. He lives on Mindanao. I don't know the geography of the Phillipines enough to know how much danger he is in. I know he lives in a pretty remote area with no access to a hospital.

I saw a pic on a news channel from a weather satellite but I didn't realize it was that bad. Hope they pull thru without too much disaster.

I have been watching it and I cannot fathom its size, I have experienced winds over 100mph and I cannot imagine 195++. It must be like the hand of God.
Anyway all we can do is support them when this storm is over, they will need it.

An illustration of how a natural disaster can impact almost anyones life at some point. The odds of one happening to the average guy are small but still present.
The forces of nature with global temperature increasing. No matter what is causing it will mean some people will be impacted like never before in their time and areas. Fortunately the increase although seeming fast is not so fast it cannot be adjusted to if it becomes a more serious issue. |

I've only been in winds about 70-80mph. I can't imagine 195mph.

I feel for Bohol, which is a province recently ravaged by a 7-something magnitude quake. Folks there are still recovering and here comes the strongest typhoon, to hit Bohol dead on. Almost all several hundred year old churches back there crumbled due to the quake, one or two of those I visited when I last came over.
Fortunately Metro Manila won't be in the cross hairs but will still receive Signal No 3 levels. Those in the path of the storm are level 4. At least for a typhoon you get to have a chance to prepare. Earthquakes suddenly arrive with little to no warning. But still, the floods are deadly.

I am, but you're probably talking about Bong. He's a friend of mine who drives around the country in his SD, yes. I haven't seen him here in a long time.

And yet we insist on the false premise that mankind is not accelerating climate change.
