Don't mess with Texas...
Well, the single moms there, anyway.

(from the article; The founder said this:
But, he noted, “even if one concedes that it (probably) deters some crime, that has to be weighted against the (probable) consequence that it also increases the number of suicides or gun accidents."
![]() Such things could *NEVER* happen in Texas.

I hadn't seen that. It's a great idea. Single Mom's deserve to be able to protect themselves as well as everyone else.
It's a stupid argument to say that it will allow people to commit suicide. For someone who actually WANTS to commit suicide is a gun the ONLY way that they can accomplish it? I wonder what percentage of suicides are committed with a gun? As if it made any difference. How stupid!

The CDC says that of approx 38K suicides, around half are committed with a gun. Also: Quote:

The same outfit is also active in Tucson. Their program includes training provided by The Warrior School, which is a local private arms training school of the highest repute. Looks like they're doing it right.

BTW, if single mothers are given free guns, shouldn't their children be given free guns as well? Given the stress issue I mentioned above, what if some mother flips out and tries to shoot her children? Shouldn't the children have an opportunity to defend themselves?

Are single fathers any less worthy of self-protection? Personally, I'd sooner support Krav Maga lessons for all. Might help with the (in)famous Texan weight problem as well.
Then again, the gun training could serve as a social occasion and much needed time away from home and work. Perhaps that would be a benefit in itself. |

Speed, you are beyond help. BTW, someone posted a link on this forum not long ago showing the highest average overweight by state. Texas wasn't in the top fifteen. Of course I'm sure you won't let any facts get in the way of your opinion. It's never seemed to stop you before.

Maybe Texans are just more honest!
OTOH, the CDC's time lapse map is just plain scary: http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html (scroll to bottom of page) |

You know, instead of handing out those boring mini-bags of M&M's at Halloween, I'm thinking of handing out Glock G36's to the kiddies. Should be small enough for little hands, and if during a playground dispute, some other kid whips out a Ruger Redhawk, at least it will be a fair fight.
