Anybody Kick Caffeine?

I'm going to give up coffee and other caffeine, anyone else do it? If so, was your tapering process?

TIA.

Good luck man. I know I could never deal with it.

I will never give up coffee. My entire day is ruined if I don't at least get a cup

I'm like Mark Twain (to paraphrase): Kicking coffee is easy. I've done it many times.

I like coffee but have kicked it cold turkey numerous times, usually staying off of it for a year or three. But then I'll have a day when I really need to be alert at work and haven't had enough sleep -- I'll have a cup and remember how much I like the stuff.

I usually had nasty headaches for day or two when I quit. I used peppermint tea as a buffer/substitute. Word is that peppermint tea has a benign stimulative effect. Not nearly as strong as caffeine but no down side.

I think I'd be better off if I didn't drink the stuff. It's supposed to inhibit calcium absorption and I've laid awake in bed many times because I drank the stuff too late in the day. Becomes a vicious circle.

I pretty much kicked caffeine about 5 years ago. I just dranl lots more decaf and it worked. I never drink that much soda after I found out what hi fructose corn syrup does to your innards.

I only drink an occasional soda that has cane sugar, they don't put caffeeine in those, but you gotta read the label.

Maybe once a year I'll have Turkish coffee with foreign associates but usually after food.

i did it for awhile. i switched to strong green tea first, and then weaned myself from there. the thing that really helped was barley coffee or chicory coffee. that stuff tasted great, had no caffeine, and had low acidity so it was better for me than the decaf coffee was.

the headaches are terrible at first, that was the real hard part. not as bad as quitting smoking, but bad enough.

then i realized i had quit smoking, cut waaaaay back on drinking, and had quit a few other vices too. i deserved to have something....and went back to the coffee!

I never drink HFCS soda, just the diet crap. Nonetheless, it isn't very healthy. Lotsa coffee in the AM, the a number of Diet Cokes throughout the day.

I used to drink Yerba Mate, but didn't care for the taste. Maybe I'll wean down to tea and some de-caf-- see how that goes.

Never was addicted to cigs, but did kick a few other vices a few years ago. Now it's time to kick the caffeine.

Why? Just curious. I have no desire to give up caffeine. I don't drink sodas, and only drink coffee and tea in the AM, or just after lunch. Never late in the evening so no sleeping troubles.

Seriously, what harm is there in a cup or two in the AM? I don't consider caffeine a "vice". Trying to kick it sounds to me the same as trying to kick cucumbers.

Caffeine even in low doses keeps me awake at night, unless its mixed with a lot of alcohol to balance it out.

I never liked coffee.

For me it's an all-or-nothing thing. Also, I want to see how my stress levels are w/o caffeine.

I imagine it depends on how many cups your are drinking a day. Yeah, headaches for a day or 2.

One of my best drinks to stay away from coffee is lightly caffenated but not too much: Oo long tea with a bit of Jasmine flowers. Oo long is from the same plant as green tea but a bit more mature. Has most of the health benefits of green tea but in less concentration. A lot less caffeine than coffee also.

Studies come out all the time about health benefits of coffee but it also has drawbacks.

11 reasons to stop drinking coffee.
