Stuebaker R-1 Wagonaire

This is my favorite machinist and best friend's car.
He bought the nearly perfect rust free Iowa 65 Wagonaire, then bought a 36,000 mile rusty R-1 super coupe which donated all the R-1 goodies such as four speed close ratio tranny, 331 twin traction rear end, 160 mph speedo, tach, and chrome valve covers and air cleaner.

He bought a 64 Wagonaire for parts and another for parts as well. It has a freshly installed AC system from the 64 which has never been charged.

The seats include 64 Hawk buckets, and have all been reupholstered in a 60's street rod style...roll and tuck in a high quality vinyl. It has new paint and new Toyo Extenso A/S 205/75R15 whitewalls. New dual exhaust with turbo muffs for a gruff basso sound. New valve seals too. New cheap battery.

The R-1 wagon sports very beautiful paint and has a nearly perfect body with all trim being 64. It needs finishing including headliner, some interior trim and some exterior trim. All missing parts are included including the R-1 fender tags and the TT emblem for the tail gate. The carpet is very good but has soiling under the drivers feet.

The car has been sitting for about 4 years when all but the valve seal work was done. it runs and drives but needs finishing and fettling. Mostly it needs love!

He is asking $9800.

The price includes a 64 wagonaire Daytona restorable car which has disc brakes and the wrong 62ish 259 v8. It has extensive surface rust and minor holes in the floor. it is missing some trim.

If you did not want the second car he will reduce the price $1000.

That's about it. Its here in Lafayette so if you are interested let me know and I'll set up a viewing.

Its a very nice car that needs love and finishing. It has all the R-1 goodies, great rustfree (except a place in the tailgate which is bubbling...the parts car has a solid tailgate) great paint. All the really hard stuff is done, and mostly easy stuff to complet. An ideal driver project.

I talked to Homer today and he just wants it gone. He'll take $6,500 for both cars and I know he is losing considerable money at that price.

Absolutely.

And its guaranteed to leak.....just like when it was new.

Seriously I understand if you always park it with the nose up or level you will be fine.

I have received a deposit on this wagon now so unless something happens it appears to be sold.

To a nice fellow in Milwaukee.

Please contact me as a backup buyer if this buyer does not work out. I am very interested in purchasing the car and I live in Ohio.

I delivered the nice blue wagon on MOnday without mishap but yesterday while delivering the parts wagon I managed to stop a little too quickly and the rear tie down somehow came loose allowing the wagon rolled over the front of the trailer and landed on my truck's bumper. Ironically it was the last turn before the buyer's office where I was delivering the car. It was a little dicey but we jacked up the car and put wood blocks between the frame and trailer and pulled it off my bumper, then I drove it to his shop and they used fork lifts to get it back on the trailer all the way. I lost about an hour and a lot of face, but made it back to my destination for the evening and had dinner with the lovely Mrs. W. We are meandering home today.

The tailgate was already dented and the only damage to the truck was a small hole in the backup lense. The wagon's front bumper was already dented so no damage done there. My pride was heavily damaged of course.

I am planning some changes to my trailer and tie downs. I am going to raise the front rail on the trailer to above bumper height so this could not happen in the future and I plan a safety chain for the car to trailer too in case the ratchet straps come loose.
