tire press monitor lifespan?

This is something out of my experience level, no TPM on any of my vehicles but a friend dropped off a 2017 SUV which needs new tires.
Being 6+ y.o. I'm wondering if TP monitors should be replaced when the tires are replaced?

The way the systems are set up, when you turn the ignition on, it'll check the air pressure, then every 10- 15 minutes when the car's ignition it'll check the pressure again. When one tire pressure has a low battery, it follows that the others are not far behind. They have the same number of ignition cycles.

I would only change them if one of them has a low battery. They're about $60 a pop installed, at Costco.

On another brand vehicle mine lasted about 10 years. If you know that the tires will last 5 plus years consider replacing them now. If the tires will be replaced in about 3 I'd wait.

X2 on when one goes the others are close behind, have that situation in one of my cars at the moment.

Costco will not replace them on a Lexus. What they told me about three weeks ago.

Edit - wife says it was close to a year ago.

That is incorrect. Which Costco? What model Lexus?

(for the record, Toyota uses the same tire pressure sensors across all it's lines, so if they install them on Toyotas they can install them on Lexus')

2014 Lexus E350. We checked maybe 6-12 months ago when it stopped recording tire pressures. Actually sometimes it worked and sometimes it failed. Costco tire folks checked and said I had one wheel with a bad battery. However said they will not replace these on my Lexus. They will do other cars, maybe other Lexus (did not ask), but would not do my 2014.

Cumberland Mall Costco, Atlanta, GA. Have you actually been to a Costco and asked them to replace one on a Lexus? That would be a good test.

I might be all wet on this, but didn't the toyros measure differential half shaft axle rotation speeds to figure out when things went wonky? Turning it on at a standstill informs what?

Even if one fails, you get an annoying notification but you can still look at the tire and use a gauge to make an informed decision yourself, yes?

Yep and don't forget the black electrical tape over the warning light. No more TPS issues.
