At least with vintage watches you know whether the design, works, etc. could stand the test of time. Plus, you're more likely to run across a good deal on one of those.

Contrary to what most people believe, from my own experiments I've found that electronic/digital clocks (say a digital wristwatch, the clock of an usual computer etc) are not masterpieces of accuracy compared to good quality mechanical movements. They are accurate, indeed, but not enough to avoid periodic adjustment. For example, in my home desktop computer, the clock looses about 2 minutes/month (about -4 seconds/day) while the desktop computer at my office, which is thought to be a 'high-grade' workstation, gains some 2 minutes/month.
Also, high-grade quartz movements from Seiko are rated to +/- 20 seconds/month (~0.67 seconds/day), while COSC standards for quartz allow +/- 0.07 sec/day which would be an extraordinary accuracy (99,99975 percent!!) As I've said in an earlier message, my Candino automatic lost about 10 seconds/week (~1.42 sec/day) after it's January repair and adjustment, now it looses about 50 seconds in 9 days (~5.55 sec/day), which is still pretty accurate if adjusted once per week to standard time. Factory tolerance for automatic movements allows even 40 sec/day variations, which led to the crappy myth of "that's all automatics do" ~Nautilus

Question for all the Seamaster fans out there.
How can you tell if its real or a replica? I have been looking for a new wrist watch, and came across a few old Seamasters at a local pawn shop.

Browse a watch forum....
and post pics of watch for the experts to view!! Also, the movement should be examined to be sure it belongs to that model.
TimeZone is a great general info watch forum with brand specific pages, including Omega. There are also specific Omega forums out there. Good luck! Post pics here if you buy something.

Acesful, I'd love to see the movement in that Tiffany watch. They contracted their watches to top Swiss manufacturers so it would be interesting to see who made the movement.
Hi-power, those are freakin fantastic! Love those chunky Omegas.
