I don't know if the battery re-sets it - but it's probably easier to pull the module!

As to re-learning its adaptation, it starts out at full rich then takes fuel away. As I understand it, this process can take quite a while, perhaps even days, to fully sort itself.

Hmmmm! So the re-set process can start with a power gain, perhaps? Very interesting info. I'll pull the module and see what happens. Thanks!!!

No change with high octane fuel. The tires are, IIRC, Dunlop SP Sport 5000 (a high-performance all season tire - not sticky gumballs or anything...)

I started a separate thread to quit hijacking the ASR defeat - click here for the latest scoop:

M119 - low power off idle - help! (W124, 500E)

Any interest in these things?

I still have the bits to assemble a few more of these, so please let me know if you'd like one. Mine's been in place for quite a while now, and has continued to work just great

If you don't already have this, I can heartily recommend getting Michael's kit. Definitely worth it.

On a side note, for those following my perceived 'low power' issue, I made it to the dragstrip last night. Short version is that the car is running well, perhaps *slightly* down on power off idle, but not nearly as bad as I may have thought. Full details are in this thread (scroll past the first two long posts) :

ASR defeat on M103 and M104

124 series with M103 and M104 engines has ASR 2 while the V8 has ASR 3.

My car (90-300TE) has 2 control units that are involved when the accelerator is "strangeled" when ASR kicks in.

The N30 box (ASR/ABS) and the N4/1 box (electronic accelerator)
Because M103/M104 has a electronic accelerator they have an actuator to adjust the throttle, and to cut throttle when ASR kicks in.

I have a theory when it comes to ASR defeat on the 6 cyl. and I want your oppinion:

The N30 and N4/1 box communicates over 2 wires.
On the N4/1 box the pins used to this are 31 and 34.

31: To ABS/ASR control unit - Throttle valve actual value
34: From ABS/ASR control unit - throttle valve setpoint.

If I connect these over a switch, I believe ASR would be switched off.
And the ABS and Tempomat should still work!?

According to what I've read in WIS there is no storage of fault messages in the ASR 2 systems.

:-) neil

PS: I'm glad my C36 powered wagon does NOT have ASR!

Okay. I got the switch installed but have questions.
I used Bryan Harter Picture / step s and it does work. WOW all the way through first and into 2nd boy does it ever.
But the ASR switch does not turn off my ASR ligt nor the snow chains.
It also seems to work backwards. I mean the car defaults to ASR OFF when I start it and then I turn the ASR ON by presing the switch. Can someone please let me know where I went wrong. Michaels and Bryans instructions are different as far as which wire colors are connected to 25 , 35 , 37.
Please Help!! wWith this thing defulting to NO ASR, I wont have tires left on this BEAST for very long

On my ASR defeat setup, when you flip the switch, it turns ON the snow chain light, the ABS light, and the ASR triangle in the speedo. At least it used to... the triangle no longer is on when ASR is defeated, but it flickers once when I turn it off (re-engaging ASR)! Go figure. Everything works as normal though so I'm not complaining.

My car came with the ASR defeat setup so I can't help on the wiring questions... sorry!

Glad the install worked out

If there's something I should add to the installation instructions in the interest of clarity, I'm open to suggestions.
