94 e320 transmission swap

I have a 94 e320 with no reverse due to a b2 piston problem , easy fix, but I recently bought a 97 c280. I was thinking about taking the 722.6 out of the c280 and putting in the e320 that has the 722.4 want to keep the 3.2 in it . will the engine control module from the c280 work in the e320 or will I have to keep the 2.8 mated to 722.6

The swap is possible however it will be lots of work / custom wiring. The 2.8 will be too underpowered for the E and converting the current 3.2 to work with the 2.8 FI system will be much work.

Fix the trans in the E and drive the C.

thanks for the advice 97sl320 .I have a second 722.4 in the process of rebuilding for the E , but was also considering putting a manual gear box in the E , however even though installing the pedal box doesn't look too difficult , installing the hydraulic master sounds a little more challenging . really just looking for a stronger alternative to the 722.4 . any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I run a 722.6 in my 124 coupe with a standalone controller. Its a pretty steep learning curve to tune the standalone. You can set one up to do anything, though only about 5% of anything is something that resembles proper transmission behavior. That said, best mod ever. Despite the high cost entry and work tuning, I don't regret it at all. Not even a little bit. 5th gear is great and even my 104.980 which isn't a low RPM torque motor pulls 5th just fine. Did I mention... best mod ever.

thanks for the input duxthe1 , it sounded like a pretty cool mod, and saw a lot of people doing it and ever since I blew out the .4 being too impatient one day not letting it fully engage into gear I've wanted a tougher trany , even considered a manual swap but with acquiring the perfect donor , ( 97 C280 w202 m104 $200 ) I'm gonna have a new project

While the 97 trans will bolt right up, its not the best choice given the amount of work and expense. The earlier trans is known for catastrophic K2 failure. The valvebody also went through a couple of iterations with the latest version presumably the better choice. If I recall correctly after 2001 the k2 problem was fixed so I'd look for a cheap post 01 trans and swap the bellhousing to bolt it to the 104. That will be bulletproof.

Would you mind telling me which controller you used? Could you describe a few of the problems you ran into? 722.6 is probably the eventual solution for at least one of my cars, probably my 190E if I turbo it.

I'd assume duxthe1 is running the TCM2000 as he mentions in his signature. I like my ofgear controller, behind my KE jet M104.990 I also have peddle shifters waiting to be installed - have not found the time to do so.

That's the one I've read more about. How difficult was it to install and get operating properly?

I think Its the most user friendly controller for the 722.6 as it's designed for that specific box unlike other standalone tcus, if thats where you're heading, I'll gladly assist.

I feel that is a misleading statement that is not really accurate at all. There are literally thousands of hours into the PCS TCM-2800 for these transmissions and the OF gear tcu was basically a copy of what we were doing 10 years ago. I do not know how it has evolved but to say that others are not designed for the 722.6 is just inaccurate.

Motorcycles have peddle shifters, don't they?

I shared my opinion on the topic, sorry if you find it misleading. I was able to implement a Bluetooth interface to the ofgear that allows me to adapt the unit directly from my android phone that's why I find it user friendly.

Frank - I am not sure how to respond, here are my peddles have. not seen this kind on a motorcycle yet.

I have a TCM2000 with custom 2000/2800 hybrid software. Its pretty straightforward to install if wrenching and wiring don't intimidate you, but tuning requires time, effort, and miles. I'm a bit of a perfectionist though and have probably spent 50% of the tuning on the last 5% of the tune.

FWIW, even if the TCM 2000 is still available, the 2800 is hands down the way to go. Seeing what the ported software could do on the 2000 I'm pretty sure the 2800 hardware is next level ****.

Getting that 5th gear and lockup converter is a real plus. Huge increase in gas mileage. This is a pretty big mod but a worthwhile one.
