Ouch. 450 dollar flywheel. Single mass it says but the pic looks like dual. No idea if it's internally balanced or not either.

I do some consulting work for a shop when they get difficult problems. They swapped the engine then had a rough _cold_ idle then smooth but no power. These are direct injected engines with a high pressure pump run from the cam ( A Bosch system ). Turns out they didn't install the cam follower so the pump was not moving / not moving enough. The car ran on 0.3 Mpa but it should have 3.8 Mpa at idle. I lightly loaded the engine and saw 9.0 Mpa. |

Looked on RA
Pressure Plate Size (in) 10.5 Disc Size (in) 10.125 x 1.000 x 23 Looks like dual mass flywheel with a stepped face. It uses a concentric hydraulic release bearing. The down side is a self adjusting pressure plate that was designed to keep the release point constant. This worked as way of adjusting for wear in addition to the release bearing self adjustment. I had one in my 99 Ranger that the previous owner installed, it lasted a few years then started to have variable peddle height, dragging and a " boing " when the peddle was sometimes pressed. Replaced it with a regular pressure plate. It is probably a good idea to weld the adjuster to prevent future issues. |

Nothing to add to your hard work, but thought you guys might appreciate this 6.3 at pebble beach I get to move around.
https://imgur.com/a/rTCtDKW I didn't get to pop the hood, and didn't get specifics on trans, but was told it has the motor from a newer SL, and a custom 6 speed trans. Can confirm it has all six speeds. |

Hey, cool. Thanks for taking care of that one. I just checked the thread since my post and would not have gotten this done until probably Sunday.

Jono from BlueRidge MB told me about this thread.
for 600(plus exchange rate) to the US, seems like the way to go. https://rennsportfactory.co.uk/product/rennsport-factory-mercedes-single-mass-lightened-flywheel/ Also JC Mendoza of Leistrug in LA has an adapter for m119 to t56. I'll ask him for the link. saw this in my searching: https://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/audi80q/IMG_20170617_132707_zpsx6b7mzgt.jpg another thread to read if it hasn't been posted. Project Indecision - Now finally with V12, T56 and a Turbo I'm looking to add a TKO 500 to my Lemons 560 SEL later this year, probably go with these parts. |

The other option is using the actual auto bell cut behind the pump mount face and use a plate attached to it. Depth could be a problem and clutch activation is custom or concentric slave. I've never really with one but if it fails your pulling it all out to deal with it.

Dredging this up from the depths again, as I've made no progress myself on anything.
I've chopped an auto bellhousing to do something similar that we did for a Miata T5 swap kit we were going to offer, and the prototype turned out great. For me, the bellhousing isn't the biggest issue, but rather sourcing a flywheel that will work. The ring gear from the 3.5 M116 is getting harder to find and ever more expensive. I'd been chatting back and forth with the folks at Rennsport Factory for some time, but could never really determine where I wanted to go from there. So far, I've got a T5 from a turbo Z-car that I had thought about using, but I'm wondering if a GM/Ford T5 would be a better fit. I haven't been driving my 500SE as much simply because I know it's only a matter of time before the automatic goes South, and I don't want to just swap in another one. While ultimately I can see myself moving to a different power plant all together (maybe M119, maybe LS), with other projects I don't have the time for a longer-term motor swap project. Once I have the flywheel situation resolved, the rest can be done over a weekend or two with regard to the bellhousing and driveshaft. The T5 Miata project really came together quickly once we had the bellhousing made, but we were able to reuse the stock flywheel with a beefier clutch. It runs and drives great. I would have liked to have picked up a TKO 500 for use with an LS or something else in the future, but I think a T5 will suffice for now. We have a T56 at the shop, but I can't seem to be granted the opportunity to buy it...

This has to be the greatest thread of all time on any internet forum. 10 years of talking about doing something and never doing it.
Doesn't Elbe make an adapter for the 117-119 already. |
