custom cams? 450sl
my 76 450sl needs a right cam replaced, and I'm considering my options.
got some good advice from 230/8 and Tomguy on a post to Vintage forum, but I have a new question. my long-term plan for this car is to replace the existing exhaust manifolds with the cats at the bottom that make the engine compartment so hot with either a downstream (Timevalve) system or a 73/74 pre-cat manifold/exhaust. so putting in the exact replacement cam listed for the 76 may not make sense now, right? especially if I go to the earlier manifolds and get cats completely out of the car. (I'm checking to see if that's legal in Florida). that would suggest different cams specs would be needed. the complication is the 76 has hydralic lifters, so I can't just put 73 cams in. should I consider a custom grind in this situation? or is this introducing way too many variables into this car? |

kbflorida:
Check these guys for re-grinding your cams: http://www.webcamshafts.com/ Their phone is 951-369-5144. Talk to a tech for the straight scoop because their website is pretty thin on data. Also, check my latest follow-up to your first question... 230/8 |
