FS- 1987 300td w124 project/parts car-CA

Have an 87 300td with a blown head located in Stockton, California. I had purchased a "good" used (#17? cant recall) head from the classifieds here. That head ended up being warped (my fault-I should have had it resurfaced) and blew a gasket. While head was off, noticed a crack in said head. All parts and repairs would far exceed my budget and I'm ready (SADLY) to let her go to someone that will bring her back to her former glory. Besides the blown head-the car ran like a German top. Fast and quiet.

Long story short- I'm cutting my extreme losses and selling the car as a project/parts vehicle.

Specs-
1987 300td. White paint. Ok condition. Would polish up nicely.
Grey interior-decent condition, dash has the normal cracks.
Tires have 70% left
Front end had been recently rebuilt (tie rod ends, ball joints, etc)
Newer battery
Has 3rd row seat
Radiator and all hoses are less than 2 years old.
Fresh SS hard fuel lines with updated design.

Will include the old head. Needs pre chambers as they were installed by a gorilla with a sledgehammer and had to be cut out by the cylinder head rebuilder.

I'm asking $1200 obo. Bring a tow truck and ill throw in a sixer of your favorite beer.
Car is in Stockton, I'm in Oakland.

Thanks!

Seth

I just sold a 99 E300 with a bad head gasket. Appearance is important if it has big mechanical issues. Post pictures.

Here's another-keep in mind that the windows have been professionally tinted and there's a dent on the rear hatch where it says "300td".

Original head (#14) was replaced when first head gasket blew. Bought a head from the classifieds here, should have had it surfaced/rebuilt. Second head gasket just blew and the head has a small crack. My head dude (whoa, that doesn't sound right) said that besides the small crack (which he said is totally fixable) the head is in great shape. Unfortunately, he discovered that someone had destroyed the little caps that hold the pre combustion chambers in. He had to cut the prechambers out in order to resurface the head. I looked around and can't find replacement prechambers for less than $80-90 each. Basically, the costs associated with the head rebuild (rebuild, labor, reinstall costs) far exceed my tolerance and the value of the vehicle. I'm just done. It's unfortunate, because I really like this vehicle, but I've got enough projects. Seriously.

Did the first head pressure test bad? More than likely it was a bad HG not head unless there was an overheat directly attributed. There were just as many HG revisions as heads...

That's water under the bridge now. I don't have the original head anymore (unfortunately) The current head has a crack, is completely fixable, and needs prechambers.

Yup, totally. If I didn't live in the city (or at least had more parking) I'd just keep it and drive it until the wheels fell off. I dig that car, but its just gotta go.

It's a shame. My friend is putting $10.000 into the E300 we sold just because he liked it. It had no heat, rear defroster didn't work that great, dash and wood cracked, needed brakes rotors, head gasket possible bad head, trans issues bad ac leak and we got $2250.00. Honesty sells it all. I bet you can get more for it

Uh huh...

Didn't have a chance to do much cleaning up before taking these, unfortunately...
