Directional Flasher?

1983 300SD I am trying to locate where a replacement flasher is. I do not have a diagram. Is it in the fuse box under the hood or is it under the dash. Bought a part #0008211063 but I cannot match it uyp with anything. Maybe I was sold the wrong part.

Hi DpBrown.

I don't know if it is in the same
spot as a w123 but worth looking
anyway.

Remove the wooden shifter trim,then
look to the side closest to the ashtray,
just above the shifter.
There should be a black box laying on
it's side,that is the flasher relay.

Louis.

Thank you for the info. Do you think it is the same on the SD?. I would hate to start taking things apart for nothing.

Use your ears, you should be able to narrow down where the clicking is coming from when it's in use...

81wagon,

JUst a thought: Since dpbrowne is R&R the flasher unit, perhaps it isn't working. Thus he can not hear where the old one is.

Come on guys, help dpbrowne.

Someone out three must have a '83 300SD and know or can find out where the flasher is.

Stop trying to make sense! :p

Is it perhaps somewhere under the driver's side kick panel?

hey

I checkd out that part and it appears to fit in the fuse box (my guess), however, according to my fuse diagram, it doesn't show a relay for the flashers. My fuse box says that fuse 12 is for the directional flashers, so maybe check that one.

Here is a description of the SD fuse box I got from this forum a while back. Maybe someone has updates or modifications to it.

Standing by the left front wheel looking into the fusebox, assume the relays are arranged as:

A E I K
B F J L

A = power seat controls
B = auxillary fan
E = power seperation relay for seats
F = Power windows
I = OVP (none on 83)
J = ACC compressor delay
K = rear defogger and sunroof
L = interval wipers

hope this helps! Good luck!

We really need aan SD manual posted online, like the 123 one

The first thing I did was check the fuse box. The relays in the back are not marked. I took each one out and tried to match them up. None matched.

I am now wondering if the relay is in back of the instrument panel. I took the bottom half out to see if I could see anything that remotly looked like the fuse. No success.
The way these cars are designed it has to be somewhere that is easily accessible.

Someone here had to change this part. It cannot be that bullitproof.

I forgot to mention that the emergency flashers do not work. Everything else on the car does so it must be the flasher.

if your emergency flasher switch is in the center console that is where i would look for the relay first (as on w123 automatics)

dp,

If yours is like the older SDs, the flasher is part of the switch. Try removing the switch and see if isn't integral with the flasher unit.

Dp,

There seems to be some ambiguity about whether your problem is the Directional Flasher (turn signals) or the 4 light emergency flashers.

Please give a description of the entire problem.
