Mity Vac for brake line bleeding?
I am planning on doing the brake fluid changing and bleeding.
I have the Mity Vac brake bleeding kit never been used before. Any body ever used this method for brake line bleeding? Is it easy and reliable? Steve |

I've tried that a few times and in my opinion it is not the best way to bleed brakes. It's easy but I found often times I couldn't get all the air out. I've had much better luck with systems that pressurize the resevoir. My trusty EZ Bleed has worked great. Save the MityVac for diagnosing problems in your vacuum system.

I use the Mity-vac, here's how I do the job. I prop the brake pedal down about an inch, this is to cover the vent in the master so fluid doesn't flow to the bleeders. Then, I take all 4 bleeders out and clean them with a wire wheel. Take silicone grease and apply it to the threads of the bleeders. This will seal against air leaks around the threads. Reinstall the bleeders hand tight. Un-prop the brake pedal. Use the right adapter for the bleeders( I think it's the 'B') and apply about 15" of vacuum. Crack the bleeders in this order; RR,LR,RF,LF and tighten them with a wrench when you're done. Make sure you keep the fluid topped off in between wheels. Oh, and use a very clean turkey baster to suck the old fluid out of the master's reservoir before starting the job.

I never had good results bleeding brakes with a Mightyvac, but I have had consistently perfect results with my EZbleed. This is a pressure bleeder and can be purchased on-line.

I have used the Mighty Vac several times. It is a pain. The cup for the old fluid is too small and things can get messy. As posted above be sure to do something to prevent air leaks around your bleeder screws or you will be cursing.
I just went and ordered a pressure bleeder system from Motive Products($45USD). I read many rave reviews from others that have used this system. With 3 hydraulic systems to bleed every year I figured doing the job the easiest way possible is the way to go. FWIW: my G has three hydraulic systems to bleed, brakes, clutch and f&r diff locks, lots of freakin brake fluid!!!!
