Dashboard lighting
I'm sure that the dashboard lighting issue has been posted before, but in a search I'm having difficulty finding the exact resolution to my problem(s) with my 83 300SD.
Here it is: 1) I have no instrument cluster lighting when I turn on the headlights, and of course, the hands don't turn on my dash clock. (Somebody assure me that I'm not going nuts, but I swear I hear ticking as I'm driving) Do I have to remove the entire dashboard to diagnose this? 2) I have one window (right front) that goes down about halfway and then stops dead. I can't find anything blocking it's travel. The motor appears okay. 1983 300SD 170k |

Play with the knob on the lower left of the gauge cluster. That's the knob for the gauge cluster dimmer. It could need a cleaning.
The ticking could be the speedo cable unless it's constant regardless of vehicle speed. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

for the clock you have to push or pull the knob first and rotate also in the direction you whant
for the dash light, the potentiometer contacts, are oxidised, you have to remouve all thing in order to clean that ,it's bether to change, than clean, its not expensive. hope it helped |
