95 E300D Parts Recyclers?

Unhappily, my lifetime car, the ‘95 E300D, apparently lost its oil pump New Year’s Eve while a relative had borrowed it. It was run for a bit to get to an off-ramp on I-80. It made serious rotating parts noises from the engine when I went out to see if I could get it started, showed no oil pressure on the gauge though the sump was full, and it appears the engine is trash. The car is in good shape otherwise, transmission operates as it should and it’s been maintained regularly. Just had the windshield replaced and has new sun roof lifting arms. Just reached 150K mileage. Extra set of wheels.

I’m in northern New Jersey. Does anyone know of any Mercedes recyclers who might be interested in the car for its parts value? I’d hate to trash it, but am uninterested in pulling parts off it piecemeal myself to sell and I need to move it from the garage where it was dropped and would rather not have it towed home only to be towed away.

Any leads would be most appreciated.

Regards,
Tom

So sorry to hear about your car Tom! I can't offer any help either.

150 thousand is young for a diesel. If it were mine I would want to have a mechanic figure out what happened. I assume it is a NA 606. If so it should be just broken in good. I have heard of bearings falling out of the vacuum pump and dropping into the oil pump chain. I guess something like that could have happened. Since I have the same engine with 260 thousand on it, I would be interested in what happened.

I think you should post it in the for sale section of this forum I would buy it but it’s too far for me

How much do you want for it...

Please come to my funeral if my wife ever finds this forum.

Nelbur: Thanks for your thoughts. I don’t think I want to spend the money to tear the engine down to figure out what happened when the rotating noises from the engine are so severe and likelihood f repair nil. It is a NA 606, and like you I expected the engine had many miles left. I wasn’t there when the failure occurred, and it appears the car was driven to a highway exit before being shut down, instead of pulling over immediately. When I got to the car, there was absolutely no pressure shown on the oil gauge, tho it always maxed out at anything over idle previously. I think the engine is toast, and with many other projects, I just want to clear the deck.

Regards,
Tom

Benzguy300: Thanks for the suggestion and I’ll do that. I need to get it moved from the present location ASAP, but would rather see it go as a solid donor car to someone than simply what it would be worth junking it.

Tom

Diesel Benz: Thanks for the condolences. Still haven’t gotten past not seeing it parked in the yard when I look out the kitchen window! Life will go on…but I really thought I’d have that car forever.

Tom

If the car is in good shape, a junk yard engine might be a possible solution. I am not familiar with the availability of used 606s but I would expect some to have outlasted the 210 bodys, especially in the salt belt. I expect some folks on this forum will know the availability of used 606s.

A 603 turbo will fit without problems that’s what I did in my 95 E300 a 606 turbo will be a better option but it needs a mechanical pump from a 603

Too bad you are not closer, I would buy it as I have several engines for it. If it is in good shape, it would be worth finding someone who wants to put an engine in it.

I've a 95 e300d with a good engine, needs a water pump, new one is in the trunk. Previous owner maintained a log of repairs, bought it when his lease ran out.
Chipmunks got into it and munched the wiring....car is near Old Saybrook Ct, $800 would make me happy, and someone with a trailer hauling it off would make my wife happier.
