1995 E300D (W124): Interior A/C fan intermittent

Good day.

Recently my E300D's A/C blower motor intermittently refuses to run, no matter which function buttons are being selected. By intermittent I mean some days it will run and the next day it will not.

Please advise.

Also, can anyone tell me where the blower motor fuse is located? It's not in the fuse box.

I have a '91. The blower and GP Circuit are on the same fuse. Blower motor is below the mono wiper assembly. The motor may either need new brushes, oiling of the bearings, or just replaced.

I replaced my 95 E300D blower motor about 60,000 miles ago. I believe the motor with fans part number is 124-820-06-08. I did not order that part due to cost.

I purchased a Bosch 0130111012 and had a local shop pull off my old blower wheels and solder on the quick connect wires from my old motor. That part was from Bosch Brazil and has worked without any problems.

At that time the motor with bare shafts cost $76 but appears to be above $90 now. the local shop only charged $20 for their work. It's a mom and son shop, always high quality but low priced service. I tested it at their location and they had to move one of the fan wheels a little bit to keep it from rubbing the mounting.

I found a lot of debris below my original fan blower wheels that needed to be cleaned out from the top of the AC evaporator fins located below the blower and inside the passenger compartment. Debris also included a lot of old crumbly foam from the large ventilation flap that sits below the cabin filters. I found an AC thin foam filter and trimmed that to fit the flap and glued it into place. Probably best to use a high temperature glue. I used a spray 3M adhesive but found out later interior temperatures inside the passenger compartment caused that same glue to soften and lose it's holding ability on the visor mirror insert.

I could have saved money with an off brand part that included the fan wheels but preferred the 'higher' quality expected of Bosch.

This thread has a few pictures of the fan and upper plenum area & shows the flap with new foam:

95 E300D Good idea or not to replace blower resistor regulator before it fails

Currently pelicanparts offers the Behr for $289.75, and the Mercedes one for $475.75.
Most Mercedes dealers show it to be a discontinued part.

124 blower motor strip fuse

The 30 amp blower motor strip fuse is in the housing next to the driver's side strut mount.

Flip open the cover, and remove the fuse. Yes, even if it looks perfect, remove the fuse and clean the contacts on both the fuse and the holder. This sneaky fuse can be cracked and blown, but visually look good from above.

For the 95 E300, this fuse is for the blower motor only.

Thank you, ds190.

Is this 30 Amp fuse for the blower motor only? Would you by any chance have the electrical schematic for the '95 E300D?

Yes that fuse in the small coffin box on the strut tower is for the blower motor only, it was done as an improvement by MB to save the main fuse box from melting and igniting.

There is another GP fuse like this, but its an 80A one.

It could be the.....

It could be the push button control panel itself. Fortunately they're easy to take out. Finding one is really hard, you would be hard pressed to find a new one but used ones are about $50.

I had a similar symptom in my w123. The blower would work sometimes and sometimes it would just quit. I traced it with a voltmeter starting at the plug.

I found the little crimp holding the copper braid to a brush was intermittent. It looked okay just 40 years old. But inside it must have been corroded. I soldered over the crimp and now it’s reliable.

It could have also been fixed with a new motor.

So, now the A/C blower has decided to blow again, it cools and heats, the weird thing is now, even while cold starting , the auxiliary fans run even while the engine is cold.
