Do you have the OM642 (V6) or OM651 (I4)? If you say twin turbo that's a 651 and I have to say I have never seen a 651.
I was speaking about the OM642, they have 2 filters outside the wings and so there's a y-pipe that joins them together to go into the single turbo inlet. There's a MAF in each leg of the Y-pipe coming from each air filter. Sorry for the confusion.

It is finished. I went by and talked about a mbca discount. The dealership just changed hands so it is not clear to the fellow in service what he should do. He said he'd look into it and get back with me.

Sounds good?
I drove up to Michigan city today in 30 mph winds. The ML got moved around pretty well but it ran like a top with plenty of power everywhere. Me, the Mrs. and the little black dog. It is a beautiful day but a bit chilly. It is supposed to be warmer tomorrow.

My GLK250 went in for the emissions modifications on Monday. Took the dealer two days to complete and I've had it back for about 400 miles.
I can't tell any difference in power of fuel mileage, actually seat-of-the-pants feel is that it might actually have a little more torque. Haven't done a manual mileage calculation yet but on a normally traveled route the fuel guage seems to be dropping at the same rate if was before the mods. The list of parts on the invoice is pretty extensive, most of the entire exhaust system was replaced as well as the NoX sensors and particulate filter. Interestingly there are also line items for a transmission filter, 2 liters of fluid, the standpipe and transmission pan gasket? It appears the transmission firmware was also updated because I've now have the 'DX' display in the instrument cluster that displays the current gear the transmission is operating in - before the mods the cluster just said "D". I like this feature as I find it interesting to see what gear the super-smart transmission is selecting for different road conditions. Not sure why the updating of the firmware or the emissions mods required the removal of the transmission pan but the line items are definitely on the invoice - I'll ask the service advisor next time I'm around the dealers area. When I initially fot the car back the transmission shifting was a bit clunky, I'm assuming because the adaptations weren't set, now its back to buttery smooth after 400 miles. Very happy with the mods - My service advisor told me the bill to Mercedes is in the $5K range, not sure the $5k wouldn't be better spend reducing emissions in other applications/areas but I'm happy I've got a cleaner car with the same performance as before the mods.

Me too, though I did not study the performance as much as Tim did.

The VGS replacement is almost $2000 and it has to be done at the dealer because the VGS is a Theft Relevant Part and cannot be sold over the counter.

I might be in the market for a car later this year, or next year. If I get a modest car (instead of a sports car), it would probably be an E250 Bluetec. From what I'm reading, it doesn't seem like there's any reason to be weary of an MB diesel involved in this recall. Am I missing anything?

I'll let you know in 100K miles.
![]() Today I got on the new wheels and tires.....one inch smaller wheels so tires with more sidewall. Unbelievable difference in ride and steering feel. I am guessing the stupid other tires must have been run flats. I have four 20" rims which are all curbed which I will sell for a reasonable price. They are straight and the damage is on the bowed out spokes not to the rim.

The only reason we purchased a Volkswagon buyback. There is a clause in the extended warranty that the customer is always right. Past experience with their products customer service. If that clause was not there. We would not have purchased the car. The government side of the negotiations like myself. Some negotiators may have also dealt with their customer service. In my opinion and it is just an opinion. Constant short trips around a city area are not the best ideal for modified systems.Or even the unmodified ones. These modified vehicles do better with extensive highway use. Again it is just a suspicion of mine. Expensive components in the emision system last far longer i suspect. If the car comes off the much higher percentage of highway use we will sell it. |
