Def display/ governor system not working
My new 2021 1500 Silverado baby diesel has run out of def. I have some in the truck just in case it dose respond in limp mode but I’ve gone >100 miles over empty and no response or warnings have happened yet. Seeing that I don’t know a thing about the def systems or how they work. If I do not replenish the tank will it harm the truck?

Very likely it will inform you on your next startup that it will limit the speed to 55mph until you replenish it.

I think the EPA relaxed the DEF depletion shutdown rules.
Used to be that if you ran out of DEF you got 15 more starts and at start 16 the party is over no matter what. Well that caused an ambulance to fail to start, resulting in a death. So they went with the new rule, soft limp mode if you don’t fill it up. Unfortunately the early 201x vehicles with SCRs still have the 16 start rule in their firmware.
