OM617 vacuum block off plate

I have a 617.950 that I'm putting into a toyota and will be converting to serpentine. I will be removing the vac pump and need to build a block off plate. Question: can I remove the two bolts that hold the vac pump splined drive plate, or do they do more than just hold that plate (i.e. hold something timing gear related)? Thx

There is not very many who own a vehicle that has the double diaphragm vacuum pump on it.
If someone would post a sight like I think it is everythingbenz site it will have exploded part views.

Someone posted the attached pic a long time ago. The found something that worked as a block off plate.

There was a Mercedes block off plate but it was like $200.

I just pulled the guts out of my VP, siliconed the vacuum port shut, and reinstalled it as a cover. Works fine.

I spent some time on everythingbenz and they had many of the diagrams, I just haven't found the timing gear pic I'm looking for - I'll keep looking.

Interesting factory cover, thanks for the picture. I do need to build my own, since I need to mount an idler pulley for my serpentine setup on the cover. Plus I'll be shaving inches off the front by yanking the pump.

I don't know if that is the factory cover in the pic. But, when I first saw that pic I thought someone had used a Wheel Cover (hubcap). But looking at it again it looks more like some cooking bowel.

Super Turbo Diesel forum is gonna be of far better help when it comes to modding the om617 in anyway.

Everyone here is good at stock.

I have a specific post on my thread on this topic. That plate is called a "segmental flange" which is held on by 2 bolts. Metric Motors answered this question for me. That plate needs to remain; however, you can mill it down to remove the 2 cammed lobes and you can use counter-sunk bolts. I have both the MB Vacuum delete plate and a custom made one.

I found the diagram (they just called the part a 'flange'). It looks like my 617.950 is a little different, but likely the flange also serves the purpose of holding those pins in.

I'll plan to keep it and just make a little more room in my cover.

Yes, that was my suspicion looking at the diagram and Metric Motors confirmed it for me. That is, the plate holds those plugs.

Oddly, we have a forum member who claimed otherwise but I would not trust those comments.

OP I am doing something simlar, what are you doing for brakes and shutoff without a vaccum pump? I though about removing my working pump and swapping to an Audi electric one.... and using a small reservoir (factory Toyota ADD Vacuum res.) To Gain the space but also for reliability.

Greazzer had "his guy" make me a copy of the vacuum pump block-off plate. I left the inner guts in place and simply blocked off the front cover hole - works fine. I thought of doing what OM617YOTA did but the custom block-off looks SO cool! I'm sure either would work fine.
