W123 sun visors
 

I'm curious what solutions have people come up with one these, seems they are all pretty much crap, and there are no replacements even in the aftermarket.

Any good upholstery or headliner shop will be able to overhaul a sunvisor to better-than-new condition.

I was at PickNPull recently and looked for retrofits from other cars, since all W123 visors will be similarly trashed. Mine have the inner clips gone and the mirrors falling out. One from a later M-B w/ the slanted oval headlamps "might work". I forgot the model, but one of the 2-seater "Kompressor" types but w/o that badge. It had 2 screw holes and the inner clip was in almost the same place. I left it because it didn't have a lighted mirror.

The W123 is wired unique. One "wire" is the mount and the other "wire" is thru the clip to copper fingers on the visor. To use a visor which runs the 2 wires thru the shaft (most), you would have to pull the headliner to re-wire. Of other cars I looked at, many had different mounts (thicker, 3-screws, hooks and such) that wouldn't work, were too long, or were fabric that probably won't last. I prefer vinyl to easily clean grubby hand marks.

If someone pioneers a retrofit from a newer car, I would love to leverage your work. I'll post if I do.

If you are not worried with wires or lights. I took the base and rod off one of the 115's and welded the rod from a ford t bird visor to it because it was the correct length and the end piece worked.
This was several years ago so it might have been a different ford. The main thing was that it was the correct length and I could slide the visor off to weld and back on afterwards.

I've replaced my broken visor doors with the assemblies from w126 cars. I'll pull them carefully out, cut out the mirror and lenses for painting, then glue everything back in.

The only problem is that even if the 126 door has a beefier mechanism, they are still the same age and have a tendency to break in the same way.
