What is this mount or bushing called
On my 85 300 sd it is making a noise in front left suspension that only seems to make noise when going slow and turning to right kind of like a creak or groan noise then disappears as soon as I complete turn traveling over a slight bump while turning brings the noise out also. Ball joint looks good in my picture it seems like the top rubber mount in picture shown is all chewed up and gone could this be causeing my noise and what is proper name for this bushing and is it hard to change?

Guide Rod Mount
The bushing that goes into the end of the guide rod is replaceable. Common wear item on the W126. |

I've heard it mislabeled as a "strut rod" but other than that I'm not sure what other names are out there.

Yes, thanks, it was called a strut rod in the old days.....
I am not sure why you think it was misslabeled... https://books.google.com/books?id=jK93oR47zkwC&pg=PA109&lpg=PA109&dq=automotive+strut+rod&source=bl&ots=e7AU3Ghvnp&sig=tQ1T9Ccgbi6Er2hExM3fcU8WMYM&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CGQQ6AEwBWoVChMIjNeN-8bAyAIVCUqICh1UZwhW#v=onepage&q=automotive%20strut%20rod&f=false

From what I understand, it was called a strut rod on the W123 and a guide rod on the W126. I'm not sure if that's correct assumptions or not.

There are 2 large rubber bushings in each "bearing carrier" that can deteriorate as well as the guide rod mount which can also deteriorate. The 2 bushings required for 1 side are not the same and you have to call Pelican to find them. Even at that, the best I could find without paying 5x the price for OE are Myle. ~ $23+- each so, $100 delivered.
