'83 300 CD Turbo starter change
Just viewed this:
replacing starter-tips & tools needed-83 240d My CD starter doesent work when hot. Just clicks 'a few dozen times' & then usually works. Battery is good. Starts 'instantly' cold & warm. I have a 300D turbo parts car & from underneath I cannot get my hands on the starter. What is the procedure for removing/swapping out starters on these cars? From the bottom? From the top? -corne-

The 300D/CD you have to remove the Starter from underneath.
You will have to turn the front wheels to line up the Steering linkage just right to be able to wiggle the Starter out. It is a tight fit, but it will drop out through the Tie Rod Pit man Arm etc... opening. The Starter sits to the rear the distance if the addition cylinder compared to the 240D 4 cylinder engine. So it`s a bit more work to get out. Charlie
