Sunroof seal fit? (front) W123

1982 W123. Does anyone have a pic or can tell me how the front sunroof seal should look after install? I replaced mine and the one I took out, (presumably MBZ OEM) had the lip folded down to seal the sunroof when closed. Should it be like this? The new one (Uro, from Pelican Parts) I put in PITA has the lip seal up on top of the suroof when its closed.

I put in a new seal a couple of years ago. I can take some pics if I dont have any on file. But one thing I remember clearly, is that the uro seal could not be installed.Once I got the oe seal, I had no problems. I did have to lower the sunroof frame from inside to make installation much easier.

I agree! The Uro seal cannot be installed!!..It is much fatter than the OE MBZ and doen't fit into the mounting channel. I should ask for a refund with damages for time wasted. It took me three hours to install it with rubber lubricant, plastic body trim pry bars, and taking out the wind screen flap in the front of the sunroof. My fingers are hurting from sqeezing it in. In my opinion the Uro seal shouldn't be available for purchase. It doesn't work on the W123. More pics from you would help me to decide.

When I had my signature car painted, I removed the sunroof to replace the rear and side seals. The front seal was perfect, so I left it alone. Now I know why.

I expect the OE MBZ seal offered at Pelican Parts would, for three times the price of the Uro, fit well without a fuss,

Very lightly used by senior gentleman when attempting an install

How much are you willing to pay someone to take it off your hands?

Ha Ha, only kidding. I am not happy with the Uro seal either as you may have sensed from my posts.

MB Seal Price

Did I see the MB seal at almost $60 and the Uro at almost $10?

Sunroof Seals

Are you getting soaked every time you go through the car wash? You may need to replace your sunroof seals. Here at Pelican, we offer the correct OEM seals to keep you and your car's interior dry.
Didn't fit for me

I thought I might find some pics for you on my Hard Drive or on-line. While I was searching, I found this post by Stretch who is no doubt the 123 guru here I see he agrees with me. Drop the front edge of the sunroof tray from underneath just a bit, and you can easily slip the new front seal in. Otherwise even with OE seal you have a fight on your hands! The gap is very narrow and the seal that you have to feed in quite fat.

Driver side

Pass Side

URO Profile (I THINK this is orientation! Sunroof seals against moulding on right side of pic. The left side goes inside the channel.

I have a feeling there is good thread on sunroofs here somewhere, but so far I have not found it.

Yeah, I tore out the felt strip that was no longer felt and rusted. Replaced it with bulk rubber welting because the felt strip is $59.25 ea. side.

My 300D sunroof works well. I did spend the money on the proper seals and painted everything with POR up to the lip. But it seems that the crevice around the edge of the seals catches salt or water and always rusts.

One plan, was to cover the slot with clear 3M tape. Haven't quite got to that yet but may in Fall.

Welding sunroof closed would be better!

I bought a new GLK last year. Dealer did not understand why I did not want a sunroof!

For those wanting to install the URO seal, you may have a chance of getting it in if you drop the front edge of the tray on inside to provide a wide enough gap to get it in.

I would send the URO seal free to anyone, but cost of mailing from Canada would be about same as cost of seal! You might as well buy one.
