clicking under steering column when I turn engine off

I hear this clicking noise under my steering column when I turn the car off.
Please look at the picture and see if if this component needs to be replaced.

Sorry. It's a 1984 300d with 335k miles.
The clicking noise sounds like a turn signal but they aren't blinking.

The clicking starts and stops at random with and without the key in the ignition.
