W115 300d (1976) Spin on Fuel Filter, Help!
Hello,
I ordered the secondary fuel filter for my 76 300D and what arrived was a soft filter and not the spin on type. My car seems to have the spin on type of filter with a drain plug at the bottom and does not have any type of additional housing to drop a soft filter into. Please see pictures below. I went to the auto parts store and they said they had a spin on type filter in stock that came up when they searched my year/make/model, but that filter was shorter and the bolt hole on top of it was too small for it to spin onto my set up. I also had them check newer OM617 models and it showed the same filter. When they checked the 75, the soft filter came up. Does anyone know the right filter I'm supposed to use? Part numbers, manufacturer? Does my set up seem to be modified? The original filter was a Napa filter, but the part number had been wiped off. Please help!! Thanks! I'm doing the obvious and contacting Bosch by phone tomorrow. I've also emailed them today. They should have an answer for me since it is their filter head. I will update this thread when I have info.

Just wondering... That ff housing looks identical to my vw rabbit 1.6 ff housing. Did someone change that to vw housing, or is that stock fot that year?
My 75 240d has a canister filter.

If it was a Mercedes Filter Housing it would have a Mercedes Part Number on it.

It is a VW Rabbit Fuel Filter Housing from the 1980s (I pulled it off of one from the Junk Yard). I have one in My Garage.

Interesting. I have two of those vw housing around.
Now I'm wondering what the what the efficiency difference is between stock and vw spin on. T

It is a VW housing. I got the car that way. I'm not sure if it's more efficient, but I assume it is since that's the style of housing/ filter they went to in the later models.

It is a modification by a previous owner.

FYI
It is NOT more efficient.
It is cheaper to make the flange with disposable screw on cartridge. The full aluminum housing uses the same filter element (slight dimensional changes to fit each application). .
